Welcome to the WFPC Summer Book Club!✨ Thank you to those who signed up, we’re excited to begin the important work of learning, listening, and self-educating. Let’s get started!

As a group, we will meet biweekly on Sundays from 1-2PM. The first meeting will be on Sunday, July 12. Check your email for a Zoom link! DM us with any questions or if you would like us to add your email to the list.

We will start by reading “Are Prisons Obsolete?” by Dr. Angela Davis. As she is a living author, we encourage our readers to buy a copy of the book. If you’re unable to find a copy, reference our ‘Book Club’ highlight for ways to access a free PDF (and black-owned/local bookstores to support). If you’re someone who likes to read a physical copy, DM us and we will print one out and deliver it to your doorstep! As payment, we ask if you could donate an amount of your choice to Black Garnet Books. We will also provide their GoFundMe on our ‘Book Club’ highlight.

The next book we will dive into is titled ‘All About Love’ by bell hooks. Keep an eye out for a copy as you browse through the online bookstores!

Happy reading,
WFPC Team

Women for Political Change UMN is hosting a bi-weekly summer book club open to anyone!🌻✨ We will start by reading the short but foundational “Are Prisons Obsolete?” By Dr. Angela Davis. After that, we’ll read and discuss a book of your choosing. At WFPC we believe that education doesn’t end when the semester is over, especially since higher education spaces are often inaccessible and lack in the teaching of BIPOC stories. In engaging in this book club, we hope to give space for the important work of listening, learning, and self-educating.

The Senate has already had a hearing and will vote on implementing the policy on Thursday, May 2nd at 2:30pm! The vote will take place at Mondale Hall (25)
WFPC is planning on holding a rally to show the Senate and the Board of Regents that this policy has student support.

Our Story

In the Fall of 2015, a few bright-eyed and driven 18 year olds arrived at the University of Minnesota, eager to make an impact in the world with the newfound resources we then had access to, being fortunate enough to pursue a higher education. But soon after, we were harshly confronted with the reality that there was not a space on campus for women and non-binary folks of intersecting marginalized identities to build power and engage in community-based political activism. So, we created one. We’ve been building for the past 3 years, and we can’t wait for you to join our coalition!
