More than two months ago Philando Castile lost his life because he was black man having the audacity to have a license to carry a fire arm. Time Magazine covered a prayer vigil organized by our Program Director Ashley Y. Aguy.

Even though Ashley told them sadly she was not surprised, we must admit we are surprised that justice has not been served. Sadly This is our reality.
We now realize that everyday that goes by ignorance is not bliss. It costs our black men their lives everyday.

We as a people shifted strategy. A relentless pursuit of justice and a constant program against miseducation is not something we just do, it's our best method of survival as a people. Yesterday another black man was shot unarmed. We don't know what tomorrow will bring but we know for a fact we will not back down. We will be right here bridging the Gap. Fighting our fight to educate and to facilitate more black owned businesses. That is our brand of activism as we connect with others.

However you fight the fight for justice and freedom, fight it relentlessly.

Black-on-Black Love: It's Been 2 years (Ashley Aguy)

Check out our Blog written by our Director of Healing Ashley Y Aguy. Titled: Black on Black Love: It's been 2 years.

""YOU BLACK NI**ER!!!" My 7 year old best friend, who was white, yelled at me because I didn't want to play anymore. That was the first time I had ever experienced racism and the first time I lost a friend. Since then, I've been exposed to a few different faces of racism. Some very subtle... You kno...

We don't pretend to be the voice of the community. Only a platform for expression!

Words from one of our community members:

There are some who profess undying love for their country and they have very good reasons to: it has harbored systems and laws that allow them to live a life of dignity and opportunities superior to that of their fellow less fortunate citizens. (And, why would they rise up against such system? It's against human nature). Expect their backlash and pushback to consist of well-sounding rhetorics and even a well-meaning saintly appeal for peace (a negative peace as MLK would say- the absence of tension in the face of grave injustice). Their love for country splinters only at the prospects of a tax increase. This group has an inherent right to celebrate their reality in this country and be left alone. A belief in the American ideals and an effort to put them into practice is good no matter how it's come about. On the other side of the spectrum are those who display loyalty and pride for the only country they've ever known in spite of a dark past, a troubling present and even a bleak future. That counts for something? Trouble brews when the latter group shows the audacity to protest and make its collective voice heard on the thornier present-day issues. Their self-professed freedom-loving counterparts are then very quick to question their patriotism, methods, timing and motives all the while willing to be conspicuously silent on the underlying issues. Two camps of siblings (infighting), both equally American, bearing the brunt of a messy inheritance is my optimistic conclusion. One thing is clear however: each passing generation has the duty and privilege to help bridge the gap. A Nation's discourse.
