From the Ground Up

From the Ground Up From the Ground Up is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of coffee growers... Education. Diversification. Credit.

Most of us have a daily routine...
For millions of us, coffee is the ignition. Why are coffee farmers still living in Poverty if coffee is in such high demand? Fair trade coffee practices have come a long way since the low prices of the 80's, but more NEEDS to be done for the marginalized farmers. From the Ground Up works alongside coffee farmers through a "hands-up" approach. By partnering with o

ther organizations and institutions, we maintain low overhead and involve the local community. We strongly believe in the power of relationships and know that change will not happen without first building a foundation of trust. Since October is Fair Trade Month, I've read a lot of posts about how to engage. This is my favorite: "PLAN A FAIR TRADE HALLOWEEN! The easiest place to start is by ensuring that your Halloween chocolate is Fair Trade Certified. Costume ideas that make a statement: Dress as a Fair Trade Certified banana, cup of coffee or chocolate bar. When someone asks about your costume, take the time to explain why Fair Trade matters to you."

So remember this when that 3 year old asks, "what are you supposed to be?"

The new harvest from Cafe Mujeres, a female-managed cooperative is in! Bright notes of cherry and lemon zest that dissolve into buttery, caramel-laced body with light notes in the finish. Try some and support their efforts to build a women's clinic in Huehuetenango, Guatemala!

http://www.thekitchn.com/whats-the-deal-with-butter-in-coffee-190911

While foraging for lunch last week, I stumbled into a quaint gluten-free, grain-free, worry-free restaurant, built from a repurposed storage container. Looking over the menu, and debating whether I should order the quinoa or arugula salad, I noticed a peculiar offering simply called 'butter coffee.'...
