Last summer, we did a special concert to celebrate the 125th anniversary of our bells, playing only songs that were played on the first concerts in 1896. You can listen to any or all of it.

On July 8, 2021, Tower Bell Foundation performed a special concert celebrating the 125th anniversary of the installation of the bells in 1896. All selections performed that day were first performed on the bells in March 1896 by Chester Meneely, bellfounder.

Our regular Friday series of bell concerts begins this Friday, with volunteer chimes player Dan Wascoe opening the season. The concerts will continue every Friday from noon to 1 p.m. until the first Friday in October. This year marks the 30th anniversary of when we first did weekly Friday concerts.

Tuesday's Final Jeopardy asked for the name of the place in Italy famous for the material it supplied to Henry Moore and Michelangelo. Those who are familiar with Minneapolis City Hall know that our sculpture "Mississippi, Father of Waters" was carved from the single largest block of marble ever taken from the Carrara quarry. Here it sits behind our volunteer chimes player Carol Brown-Mills.

125 years ago today, the bells of Minneapolis City Hall were played for the first time. We had planned a special concert today to celebrate, but that has been postponed due to circumstances beyond our control. We will celebrate our hundred 25th anniversary this summer.
