An Election Story - At one of the stops on the Circles of Belonging Tour, a woman approached me and as she appreciated the art and message, shared that she had to mail in her absentee ballot before leaving town that afternoon and asked if I would witness her ballot. It was a small but profound request that left me reflecting deeply.

I do not know who she voted for, but what struck me was her dedication, her love for America, and her sense of purpose as a citizen. She reminded me that, regardless of the outcome, there are good people across every community standing guard over our shared values—people like her who will hold our leaders accountable to the spirit of democracy, to the vision and promise embodied by the Statue of Liberty.

Today, my wife and I cast our votes, and I hope everyone will too. And we continue to celebrate the powerful message of the Circles of Belonging: I Belong Here. There is Space for All. Together we Can Create Something Beautiful. Cultural Destinations

Over the past two weeks, driving over 1000 miles to 12 cities across Minnesota I shared the powerful message of the Circles of Belonging canvas done by hundreds at the State Fair: I Belong Here. There is Space for all. Together we can create something beautiful.

I had the privilege of meeting so many incredible people across Minnesota who are building spaces of belonging in their communities, some of them homeless. Let’s celebrate them and continue to keep Minnesota a place where everyone can say, "I Belong Here."

24 Years ago we released the landmark report helping shift the perspective of ALANA (African Latino Asian and Native Americans) communities in Minnesota from deficits to assets. During my sabbatical I requested Governor Ventura to focus on this and he appointed me chair the group. With Yvonne Cheung Ho, Ezell Jones, Richard Antell, Maria Silva, Mike Temali and many community leaders, we engaged with people all across Minnesota, studied the data, and then released the report July 10. Time to assess progress....
