Kesem at University of Minnesota

Our mission is to support children through and beyond their parent’s cancer with free, fun-filled creative programs and a lasting community.

Kesem is a diverse community led by passionate and empathetic college students working to ensure that children facing the challenges of a parent’s cancer have space, connection, and support to rediscover the joys of childhood. Kesem at University of Minnesota was founded in 2011 and supports children in the Minnesota community by providing Camp Kesem, a free week-long summer camp experience, and y

ear-round Through and Beyond support services. Our chapter is operated by 65 student volunteers and serves 160 campers ages 6-18 per year. Kesem operates at more than 130 chapters coast-to-coast. Its programs and services are all funded by generous donations from individuals, foundations, and corporate partners. Kesem is a federally registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

Looking back on Make the Magic, we’re reminded of just how meaningful this night truly was and how fortunate we are to be part of something so special that continues to show up for our community, year after year.

We’d also like to take a moment to recognize and celebrate our incredible Make the Magic coordinators Cupcake, Waves, and McFlurry for the time, creativity, and care they poured into making this event so magical. A special shoutout to our amazing emcees for the evening, Pinkie Pie and Chuckles, for bringing such energy and joy to the night.

We’re so grateful to everyone who supported, attended, and helped bring this event to life. We also appreciate for capturing these moments so beautifully, and Midland Hills Country Club for hosting us.

Thanks to the generosity of our amazing guests, volunteers, and sponsors, we raised over $43,000 for Kesem. This incredible support will allow us to continue bringing love, joy, and a sense of community to children whose lives have been touched by a parent's cancer.

Every dollar, every moment, and every person who came together has made a lasting impact. You've helped us create a space where these kids can just be kids, surrounded by love and magic. We are beyond grateful for each of you who helped make this event a success.

Get your running shoes ready because our Miles for Magic 5k is back for its second year!

Join us Sunday, May 3rd, at 9am in front of Coffman Memorial Union for a morning in support of Kesem. Grab your friends, roommates, and dogs to complete some miles for magic!
