Family homelessness is often missing from conversations and coverage about homelessness. We're grateful to KSTP-TV for covering the grand opening of our newest shelter, Belonging Place, yesterday. Kudos to all who made this expansion possible! 52 more families, including more than 100 children, now have dignified shelter and comprehensive support services like financial literacy education, housing and systems navigation, early childhood education, and more.

What an incredible day! Belonging Place—our third and newest shelter—is already full and serving 52 more families. We celebrated this historic milestone with our community at this morning's Grand Opening Event. Thank you to speakers Mayor Jacob Frey and Angela Conley Hennepin County Commissioner District 4 and Marion Greene - Hennepin County Commissioner District 3 for their inspiring words and commitment to supporting families. And a heartfelt shoutout to Hennepin County Government and the local leaders, staff members, donors, and funders who showed up to celebrate and pledge support. This is what community looks like!

As we expand to three shelters to support families experiencing homelessness, we're giving our original—and largest—shelter its first name. Collaborative leadership in action! Our Homeless Education Collaborative leaders, Charlotte Kinzley and Amy Ricco, presented at the Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless Conference yesterday. Joined by cross-sector partners from Minneapolis Public Schools, Rochester Public Schools, Columbia Heights Public Schools, Lakeville Area Schools, Hennepin County Government, and Olmsted County, they shared inspiring models of cross-sector partnership to leverage Local Homeless Prevention Aid (LHPA) funding and improve housing stability and family outcomes. Fall has arrived and winter will be here shortly! 🧥 We still need nearly 500 new or gently used winter insulated or down jackets for caregivers and their children (including children’s snow pants), which we’ll start distributing later this month and all season long. ✨Last week we marked another milestone in our expansion. We will soon become stewards not only of the First Covenant Church Minneapolis property, but of the church's 152-year history of serving the community. We celebrated this milestone with the church, which has entrusted us to continue caring for our neighbors with compassion and dignity. 🤝 Some young learners from our Early Learning Center joined us for the festivities and sang "You Are My Sunshine" to everyone's delight. 🌞

💫 One year ago, we launched our first Lived Experience + Advocacy Fellowship (" LEAF"). And last Saturday, we celebrated our extraordinary LEAF Fellows: Kelly, Marion, Duane, Judy, and Aja (pictured left to right), with staff, friends, and family. 🎉 We thank the Pohlad Family Foundation for funding LEAF for two years, and Linda Berrara (pictured far right), our Community Organizing Manager, whose leadership made the fellowship so special for everyone involved. 💞

Each year, we host this event so guests can enjoy one last outdoor celebration of our community’s heritage at our Possibility Place Shelter, 614 South 3rd Street, Minneapolis. We need volunteers on Thursday, September 24, for the following shifts:
