Our newly minted high school graduates spent time celebrating themselves and fellow Wallin scholars over an evening of togetherness, laughter, and excitement.

Important lore to recall: All 2026 high school B.E.S.T. scholars will enter college this fall receiving specialized support (from both B.E.S.T. and Wallin Education Partners), an expanded diverse community of college peers, and up to $16,000 over four years in scholarship dollars. 🎉

There’s a winner in the house! 🎉

Today we’re honored to highlight Donnell “Donny” Ellis — an award winning, B.E.S.T. College Scholar who recently graced the stage to receive the George Floyd Arts & Culture Fellowship. Thank you to Win Back, led by Leslie Redmond, for recognizing Donny’s greatness and expanding potential. 🏆

What an honor it has been to watch Donny grow from a high school graduate ready to explore the world around him to an accomplished, young man gearing up for his junior year of college. The following except touches upon the enlightened path that he has set for himself:

“Growing up without many positive male role models, he made a conscious decision to pursue a different path, staying focused on education and personal growth while remaining on the A and B honor roll throughout school. Inspired by his parents’ sacrifices and his mother’s resilience, Donnell is motivated by a desire to create a better future for himself and honor his father’s dream of seeing his children attend college.”✨

The high school era has come to a close for 8 amazing B.E.S.T. scholars in the class of 2026! This is an incredible milestone for our scholars, their family and friends, and the B.E.S.T. team. ✨

At B.E.S.T., the high school years are an essential part of our work where we spend time ensuring our scholars are academically, emotionally, and financially prepared for higher education. We’re excited to take that next step with these incredible young men as they navigate, enjoy, and succeed in their college years! 🎓

James has led us brilliantly over the past two years with incredible heart, grace, wisdom, and dedication. Thank you for all that you do to ensure that young Black men across our city are seen, are heard, and have the resources + community that they need to thrive in the classroom and beyond!

👉🏾 Next month, B.E.S.T. will welcome its next cohort of 9th graders (bringing our total to 5 cohorts across high school and college)!
