‼️🇵🇸CAMPAIGN LAUNCH: SKYDIO

🚫🇮🇱Stop Minneapolis from contracting with IDF drone suppliers!
🚫🚔No “first responder” AI drones for MPD!

Skydio is the largest manufacturer of drones in the US. Since 2023, they’ve supplied Israel with AI-powered drones to aid in the surveillance & genocide of Palestinians.

Today, Skydio drones are being launched in cities across the U.S. under the guise of “public safety,” operating in over 800 agencies across the country. In MN, they currently operate in Brooklyn Park, Duluth, Minnetonka & Rochester.

This tech has already been used to surveil dissent everywhere from “No Kings” rallies to pro-Palestine student encampments to Cop City in Atlanta.

The City of Minneapolis is considering a contract with Skydio to use these drones as data-gathering “emergency first responders,” beginning with a 75-day trial period where the drones will operate in the Fourth Precinct.

Minneapolis residents are all too familiar with MPD and other agencies wielding military-style equipment and intense surveillance against vulnerable communities and political movements, from Black Lives Matter to Operation Metro Surge.

Supporters of the Skydio contract claim that existing regulations would prevent abuse of their surveillance tools, but MN Statutes contain vague exceptions that virtually guarantee the weaponization of this technology against political dissent. The drones can also be requisitioned for use by Trump’s federal government.

Stopping Minneapolis from contracting with one of Israel’s key suppliers of high-tech military drones is a step forward in the local Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions (BDS) movement.

The Free Palestine Coalition, of which MN Christians for a Free Palestine is a member, calls on the local movement to mobilize against the proposed “drones as first responders” pilot program – both as part of the ongoing movement to divest public money from companies aiding Israel’s genocide of Palestinians, as well as to oppose the expansion of militarized, AI-driven surveillance in our communities.

City Council will hold a public hearing regarding the proposal on July 8 at 1:30 p.m. In the meantime, stay tuned for a call-in campaign & mobilizations leading up to the public hearing.

We will discuss our status as an official chapter of the national Christians for a Free Palestine, highlight current campaigns and future strategies, and discuss working groups. The presentation part of this meeting will be recorded for those who can't attend.

ACTION ALERT!

Last Saturday, ICE abducted Columbia University student organizer and father-to-be Mahmoud Khalil in a calculated attempt to silence those speaking out against the Israeli government’s genocide and apartheid. Within 24 hours of being detained, Mahmoud, who is a legal permanent resident with a green card, was transferred to a Louisiana ICE facility more than 1,000 miles away from his home and his wife who is 8 months pregnant.

We will not allow this to become the new normal.

The detention of Mahmoud Khalil by the Trump regime is further proof that we are on the brink of a full takeover by a repressive, authoritarian regime. This is what fascists do as they cement control. This is the time where all people of conscience must take bold action to resist state violence and repression.

The Trump regime is trying to crush dissent beginning with those who speak out for Palestinian freedom. Anyone who wants to live in a free and fair society should call this out for what it is — fascism! But the people are united and we won’t back down. Free Mahmoud Khalil!
