Minnesota Cartoonists' League

Minnesota Cartoonists' League The Minnesota Cartoonist League is a group of Minnesota based cartoonists & people who enjoy Cartoons. We may try on-web meet-ups in the near future.

We were meeting at a private residence in Uptown, Minneapolis, until the COVID lock-down, March 2020. The Minnesota Cartoonist League is group of Minnesota based cartoonists and cartoon fans. At one time did meet on the last Tuesday of of every month at O'Gara's Bar & Grill, until Sept. 2018, when O'Gara 's was closed & demolished for building redevelopment. (In March of 1941, James Freeman O’Gar

a opened the doors of this tavern providing a wholesome atmosphere for conversation and camaraderie. Initially food and liquor was served to the local residents who fought World War II at home by manufacturing supplies and munitions for those overseas. You could even get a haircut from Carl Schulz, whose son, Charles gained international fame with the cartoon strip “Peanuts.” Schulz’s original shop was located in what was the Shamrock Room.) We have tried other locations for socializing, including Famous Dave's BBQ in Calhoun Square in Minneapolis. Most recently, we were meeting-up in private homes, until the COVID-19 lockdown, starting in March of 2020. We may be considering virtual on-line meet-ups in the future.

I have it on good authority that "There
Are No Fur-Elves" in the Tugly Woods, since about January 1974. (It may be possible that was a situation of "don't tell".) Fortunately, there seems to have been authenticated "Wood-Elves" existing, that provided some slack. (Much thanks to the slightly subtle Minn-Stf gamesmasters: Blue Petal, Richard Tatge, & Larry Brommer.)

Merry Saint Urho's Day! The 16th of March was chosen by Suomi (Finnish) immigrants to North America, to be conveniently the day before Saint Patrick's Day, celebrated by Irish immigrants. Perhaps to provide an excuse for conversation and beer toasts in small town Minnesota taverns? The Legend of Saint Urho was about his driving away a plague of grasshoppers from the threatened Finnish grape vines.... So maybe the Suomi toasts were done with mugs of wine?
