As I drive and see people holding cardboard, signs, begging at intersections I have often found myself wondering “What’s the rest of the story? “. Questions I ponder include, “Should I give money to support their supposed habit?”. Or, “Are they scamming?“. Or, “Why don’t they get a job?”. With this in mind, my partners Shawn Nielsen-mn Beth Korth and I decided to approach our neighbors in need rather than stand at a distance and recklessly judging them.

Our dear friend, Alexis Rogers from KARE 11 News did a wonderful “Lifting Voices” segment on our “Will You See Me?” book project we are working on offering the “other side of the story” of those who have been reduced to begging for a living.

Last night, the Good in the 'Hood ministry center in north Mpls was broken into and vandalized for the 2nd time in 2 weeks. This has been the home of our Food in the 'Hood program at Beacon of Hope and Holiday Help programs for many years and our newly launched 5th site of our SoleCare for Souls foot care outreach. Equally important, it is the home of 4 valuable partnering churches (Beacon of Hope Church, Northside Neighborhood Church, and God's Helping Hands Church) who are partnering together with us to offer a practical expression of God's love to the north Mpls Jordan community.

Several items were stolen including some valuable sound equipment. The damage and repairs are extensive. Please join your hearts with us as we continue to work together and to move forward without any interruption of services and support for our beloved community.
