Ski for Light, Inc Skiing. Sharing. Learning. SFL testimonials from prior events:

“I loved every moment of the challenges, excitement, and victories.

The mission of Ski for Light is to enhance the quality of life and independence of visually or mobility-impaired adults through a program of cross-country skiing. The week in Provo was not just a sporting event for me, but a healing week. So many past moments of doubt about what I can or cannot do were flushed away…”
—Jeannie Partaka, first-time blind skier

“The generosity of the guides and other volunteers was so beautiful, and yet when I said so, each one answered that they got as much out of it as the participants.”
“Cheering as friends I knew crossed the finish line, I was struck, as I had so often been, by the guts, determination and sense of adventure that we all share.”
—Christine Malec, first-time blind skier

“I was nervous at first, wondering if I would be a good enough skier to guide someone who was totally dependent on me. It turned out to be one of the most rewarding weeks of my life!”
“The experience made me much more aware of our blind community and what they accomplish in spite of what we sighted people would consider extremely challenging obstacles—and the many things that we take for granted.”
—Pat Lawrence, first-time guide

"The experience at my first SFL event in Provo, Utah, was truly life-changing... I have more confidence to travel independently and embrace outdoor winter sport! Thank you, SFL, from the bottom of my heart for this opportunity."

The 12-page booklet is available now as a fully accessible, downloadable pdf on our website (link in the comments); to request a print copy, drop us a line. And if you've already received one in the mail, be sure to share it with others -- it's a great way to tell our story and keep our circle of friends growing. 🙏

"Gratulerer!" (congrats!) to our Ski for Light ambassadors to the Foreningen Ridderrennet, especially this year's official SFL Ridderrenn Team members Lucas Rice and Marian Wildgruber (VIPs) and guides Greg Cox, Allen Takahashi, and Doug Sundberg. (A sixth honoree, Greg Andrews, was unfortunately unable to make the trip.) Joining the Norwegian adventure were VIPs Kevin Whitley, Michelle Curtis, Anthony Nelson, Courtney Mazzola, and Susan Bueti-Hill, along with guides Bruce Slinkman, Louis Peterson, Julie Coppens, Astrid Mullen, and Marion Elmquist, our trip leader.

From the impeccably groomed Nordic trails of Beitostølen Helsesportsenter, to the biathlon range and even the Talent Show stage, they represented the Ski for Light spirit so well. Here are just a few photo highlights, including some of the cultural landmarks our American friends got to explore in Oslo before and after the Ridder Week. Tusen takk (big thanks) to Marion for organizing another great trip for the group, and making sure everyone got home safely.

Next year's Ridderrenn is set for March 7-14, 2027, and according to our Norwegian friend Reidar Storvik, "You're all welcome!" so... start saving and planning! 🇺🇸🤍🇳🇴

"Hipp, hipp, hurra!" and "tusen takk" to our honored Norway Night guests, who helped us celebrate SFL's Scandinavian roots through poetry, music, skiing history, handicrafts and more: Terese Holm of the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in San Francisco; Merv Eriksson from Sons of Norway; Kristin Lanvransson and musician Chris Welsh from the Scandinavian Alliance of Colorado; Reidar Storvik and Einar Berg from the Ridderrenn; and the phenomenal musicians of Nordic Daughter.

We made it! Race Day was a complete success! ⛷️ This week was brought together with the Olav Pedersen race/rally day where skiers and guides worked together to complete a 1k, 5k, or 10k course… and can we just say they completed it so well!
