At Centered On Youth (COY), our primary goal is to save lives. With the help of our resources, co-laborers, and project partners, it is our intent to be leaders at cultivating youth and their abilities to make positive contributions to our communities. COY will offer a variety of services to promote positive decision-making, leadership, and increase awareness regarding the impact bad choices have on families and communities. MENTORING COY Provides mentoring services to a wide variety of youth from age 10 to 18 as well as adults of all ages. We have a skilled group of mentors who are passionate about the development and well-being of youth from all walks of life. After learning and gaining trust, we build relationships with youth to begin helping them determine choices that will benefit their future. Through empowerment workshops, one-on-one sessions, working with parents and all that influence that person, we show them how important they really are, teaching them to first love themselves, family and their community. We instruct, encourage and motivate to help bring them to their full potential. CRISIS INTERVENTION Our Crisis team is skilled in determining problem behavior changes. We have learned how to interact with the different behaviors and environments we come into contact with. Through our leadership we are able to communicate with the parties involved effectively working to de-escalate situations and resolve issues and concerns. We also have partnerships with community leaders to assist us in working with families. EMPLOYMENT TRAINING COY’s training is unique in its approach. The contextual learning and competency-based skills training are key components of the COY model. Classrooms, shops and labs all emulate the industrial model that helps students socialize to the workplace environment. COY is keeping in step with today’s job market by incorporating in all of its training the needs of the youth we work with. COY training is realistic and relevant. Before we allow our students out into new areas, COY conducts assessment studies that ensure a program is viable with a future for growth in their life and career. Through an active Advisory Board and Skills/Personnel Advisory Committees, employer relationships are built to form a working collaborative to help COY students first gain the necessary basic and technical skills in training, and secondly, to assist them in securing employment when they graduate.
