NSTT is sad to announce that Anita Kern passed away at the end of June from cancer. Anita found an NSTT brooklet at a state park about 10 years ago and she and her partner, Todd Johnson, decided to come to an event. The first one they attended was at William O’Brien for one of our annual meeting guided walks. They fell in love with our club and became regular participants at all our events over the years. They frequently brought along their cats, Gizmo and Boo, to events, complete with their air conditioned stroller. Over the years they volunteered at events helping set up and take down the event registration area or remove trail signs at the end of events.
NSTT is going to dedicate the August events to Anita’s memory, as she and Todd were so looking forward to going to those parks. We will also have a collection jar for anyone wanting to contribute to a memorial to Anita on behalf of NSTT and its walkers. There will be a private Celebration of Life and her ashes will be interred at a memorial forest near Scandia. Anita will be missed and we send our sympathy to Todd and Anita’s family.
