Metro Pheasants Forever & the Bird Bustin Babes join forces for Clays for A Cause III
Clays for a Cause III will raise funds for the James Meger Memorial WMA near Marshall, MN. Clays for a Cause was started by a group of Minneapolis women who shoot together on a sporting clays team. Founder, Kristi Backer Palmer describes their beginning this way, “It all began as a project in a personal and pro
fessional development training program I was a part of. Our assignment was to create a service project. Chris (my husband) and I had just been hunting in North Dakota and the county we normally hunt in had lost over 11,000 acres of CRP and public hunting land in the last year to crops. Currently, the public land available for hunting in MN is also limited and declining due to farming bills which lead to CRP is being changed to cropland. Some of my most precious memories and experiences are outdoors walking the field with my husband and our two labs hunting pheasants or grouse, so I decided to give back to the habitat I love so much. I engaged my women friends on my sporting clay shooting team “The Bird Busting Babes” and we created a family friendly, sporting clays shoot fundraiser called Clays for a Cause. Our inaugural event took place at the Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club on March 22, 2014. Since it’s conception, Clays for a Cause has raised almost $10,000 that was donated to the purchase and preservation of two specific habitat areas in Wright County through the Build a Wildlife Area fund sponsored by Pheasant Forever.”
The Metro PF board is very excited about this collaboration. The women from Clays for a Cause are bringing new energy and focus to this year’s spring shoot. It will be the first habitat contribution in five years. 100 % of the profits raised from this event will stay on the ground in Minnesota. We hope you will join us from 9 to 2 on Saturday April 23rd at MN Horse & Hunt for shooting, lunch and a silent auction while raising funds for today and tomorrow's hunters and conservationists.
