Maroon & Gold Scotch Whisky Society What We Do
The Maroon & Gold Scotch Whisky Society (M&GSWS) meets quarterly at various locations in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area.

We are an exclusive Scotch Whisky club based in the Minneapolis/St.Paul metropolitan area, who have found common interest in our thirst for a fuller understanding and appreciation of all things Scotch Whisky. The highlight of each gathering is the opportunity to sample several Scotch Whiskys and engage in lively discussion. Each meeting consists of three (3) parts:
• Scotch Whisky education
• Scot

ch Whisky admiration (scotch tasting), and
• Scotch Whisky adoration (discussion and debate)
At each meeting, we taste between three to five Scotch whiskys. We emphasize Scotch Whisky of the single malt variety first and foremost, however we do not disregard the existence of some of the blended varieties’ quality offerings. . Club members are able to sample the scotch in their personalized Glencairn M&GSWS glassware. At the conclusion of the tasting portion of a club meeting each member is asked to numerically rank the scotches, thereby allowing the club to ascertain a consensus “Best Scotch of the Night”. This scotch will again be sampled by the club at the 4th and last meeting of the year in conjunction with other “Best Scotch of the Night” selections. The purpose of this format is not to ascertain the best overall scotch, but rather as a mechanism to assist club members is comparing, contrasting and rating different scotches as the club seeks to fulfill its goal of a deeper understanding and appreciation of Scotch Whisky. While membership in M&GSWS is strictly governed and controlled by the organizations by-laws, members naturally have the desire to share their knowledge and appreciation for scotch with non-members. Therefore Members are allowed to bring one guest to each meeting to introduce or further educate other gentlemen about Scotch whisky. A detailed explanation of our guest policy as contained in the by-laws can be obtained from any club officer. In addition to the focus of Scotch whisky, the M&GSWS also strives to entertain community service. We do this through food shelf donations, financial donations to charitable causes and warm clothing drives for those less fortunate than us. We believe that a truer appreciation of Scotch whisky necessarily equates to a more mature, reasoned and cultured man, giving back to our local communities is only a small part of what we do, but it is nevertheless equally important.

Comparing scotches can be difficult. Some people look for the peatiness of an Islay offering, others champion an expertly crafted blend. But, when it comes down to it, scotch is scotch, and we love all kinds. And while there are plenty of great Scotch whiskies we’ve tried, there are some that are s…
