CUHCC is a community clinic providing medical care, dental care, mental health care for everyone.

It offers a Discount program to make care more affordable, insurance and MNSure navigation, advocacy for domestic abuse and sexual assault, and more. Community-University Health Care Center (CUHCC) opened its doors in 1966 to provide primary care services to children and low income families in South Minneapolis. CUHCC is a federally qualified health center and also a department within the University of Minnesota's Academic Health Center. The clinic offers medical, dental, mental health, advocacy, legal, and other programs. CUHCC serves nearly 11,000 patients a year through over 55,000 visits annually. The patient population comes from over 12 different racial and ethnic groups that span five continents. At CUHCC we're transforming urban health care and educating the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Ahmed first visited CUHCC as a University of Minnesota technician shadowing a colleague and remembers being struck by the small clinic’s commitment to underserved communities. After supporting CUHCC through his IT role for 12 years, he officially joined the team to lead its transition to Epic—helping give providers more time to focus on their patients.

His reflection is one of 60 Voices of CUHCC, celebrating the people and changes that have shaped our first 60 years.

Former Dental Director Joe Grayden remembers an early space that wasn’t perfect, and a team determined to make sure patients received the care they needed.
