Important update: our organization will be moving forward under our original name, Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging (MAAA).

While our name is changing, our work is not. We remain dedicated to serving older adults and caregivers across the region through our strong community partnerships, services, funding and programs.

As we navigate this transition, our priority is to continue helping people thrive as we age by maintaining and strengthening the network of services older adults and caregivers rely on each day.

Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks. In the meantime, check out our updated website: www.metroaging.org

Kick off the week with some interesting reading: New research published by the Gerontological Society of America shows taking part in musical activities improves thinking and mental well-being in healthy older adults.

Participants in the study who took part in music therapy sessions saw increases in cognitive function and decreases in depressive symptoms.

This research could help make the case for more music therapy programs as a way to reduce the risk of cognitive decline and dementia.

If you've seen the opinion article "Older Americans are Hoarding America's Potential" published by the The New York Times AND the Star Tribune, you know it's more important than ever to reframe aging.

Join Reframe Aging Minnesota on June 5 to discuss how to shift the narrative when you encounter ageist comments or assumptions (or New York Times articles!).

The session will be led by framer champions Rajean Moone from the Center for Healthy Aging and Innovation - CHAI and Hannah Albers from The National Center to Reframe Aging. You won't want to miss this one!
