We are grateful because none of this would be possible without you. Thank you for easing the burdens our community carries.

Meet Majah Barnes,

Majah Barnes is a Research and Film Fellow with Atlas of Blackness’s Black Scholars Program. A Minnesota native with roots in Liberia and Nebraska, Majah is a storyteller at heart. Her early love for reading and writing evolved into digital art and photography, where she weaves emotion, identity, and imagination into visual form. Her current project explores postpartum depression and psychosis through the lens of Black motherhood. Centering vulnerability, grief, and strength, Majah challenges the myth of unbreakable Black women and sheds light on the realities many mothers face but few speak about. Her work is both a reflection and a release, honoring the unseen and the unspoken.

Meet Precious Murray

Precious Murray is a Photojournalism Fellow with Atlas of Blackness’s Documenting MN program. She is a writer, artist, and student pursuing a degree in Human Services with a focus on Social Work. Her project centers on the intersection of Dale and University in Saint Paul, where she documents the growing impact of neglected public transit, addiction, and mental health crises. Through black and white photography and sound, she captures the stories of unhoused individuals and others often left unseen. Rooted in her social work values, Precious’s work is a reflection of care, truth, and the urgent need to witness what many choose not to see.

Meet Saint Grim,

Saint Grim is a Research and Film Fellow with Atlas of Blackness’s Black Scholars Program. A multimedia artist and producer from Minneapolis, Saint uses visual storytelling to explore identity, emotion, and the realities of living with mental illness. Saint’s current project is a striking photo series rooted in radical vulnerability. Through bold imagery and layered symbolism, Saint captures the emotional highs, lows, and in-betweens of being a Black artist navigating visibility, tenderness, and survival. Their work invites viewers to witness both the struggle and the beauty within.

Meet Naomi Gbor,

Naomi Gbor is a Research and Film Fellow with Atlas of Blackness’s Black Scholars Program. A multidisciplinary artist and thinker, Naomi is passionate about exploration, expression, and transformation. Her work blends photography, painting, poetry, and film to explore how trauma, healing, and spiritual inquiry shape the way we live and understand death. Her project, How Death Teaches You How to Live, invites viewers to reflect on the many symbolic deaths and rebirths we experience throughout life. Through sensory-rich storytelling and visual art, Naomi examines how endings and beginnings shape us, urging us to listen to the deeper lessons hidden in grief, transition, and time. Her work challenges the idea that death is distant or mysterious, offering instead that it is a teacher we meet again and again.
