Congratulations to the Swedish Historical Society of Rockford receiving a grant from Swedish Council of America supporting the "Genealogy Room Project." This project will transform the lower level of the Erlander Home Museum into a genealogy center, inspiring and helping local Swedish Americans find their Swedish roots.

Grattis!

It is with great sadness and yet even greater appreciation for a generous life well-lived, that Swedish Council of America notes the passing of former University of Minnesota President and former SCA Board of Directors Chair, Nils Hasselmo. Nils dedicated his life to improving the institutions and communities he served. We hope you will join us in remembering this fine man and good friend.

He is credited with improving graduation rates, restoring stability, and raising the school's profile as an undergraduate teaching institution.

SCA Executive Director, Gregg White, recently traveled to Gustavus Adophus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota to meet the three Swedish students from Uppsala University currently studying at Gustavus during the Fall 2018 semester. Pictured are students Martin Häggkvist, Björn Wedin, and Elsa Sundwall along with Jeffery Anderson, International Students Coordinator for Gustavus.

The students' time at Gustavus is supported, in part, by the SCA Curtis L. Carlson Swedish-American Scholarship.
SCA has been providing scholarships for Swedish students to study at Gustavus Adolphus College since 2001 with the goal to strengthen cross-cultural connections between Sweden and America.

SCA recently had the pleasure attending the Swedish Cultural Society of Duluth's Lucia Fest! The celebration is a long-standing tradition for the Society and features a rich history spanning many decades. Nearly 200 people gathered in the Great Lakes Ballroom at the Holiday Inn in Duluth, Minnesota, to enjoy the festive celebration filled with Lucia and her court, choral music, a breakfast buffet, and warm fellowship. A crew from the local television news channel, WDIO, was also on hand to showcase the event!

Appearances included Jultomtar, Luciatärnor, and Lucia and her vänninor.

Holiday events are in full-swing, so there is still time to discover a festive celebration hosted by a local Swedish organization.

SCA highlighted many holiday events in the December issue of Swedish Press:
