ICOM advocacy coordinator Greg King was honored to join the Minnesota delegation representing the Immigrant Defense Network who marched alongside the Rainbow PUSH Coalition at the Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee on March 8, 2026. It was an amazing opportunity to learn from and truly appreciate how the immigrant rights we fight for today stem directly from the courage and sacrifices of the movement for Black lives from the Abolition of Slavery and to the Civil Rights Movement to today. We were honored to cross that bridge alongside today's civil rights leaders, Attorney General Keith Ellison and Rainbow PUSH Coalition leader Yusuf Jackson, in memory of Reverend Jesse Jackson whose vision of a rainbow coalition is needed now more than ever. It was also an opportunity to show the world the diversity and strength that Minnesota has gained from welcoming new immigrants and giving them a chance to cocreate the future in our state.

As Yusuf Jackson said right before we marched, tying the civil rights leaders of Selma to the immigrant rights leaders of Minneapolis: "The movement transformed from THEM and THEN to US and NOW."

📣 On Friday, Jan 23, Minnesotans are taking unified action.

✖️ No work.
✖️ No school.
✖️ No shopping.

Join Minnesotans statewide in a collective pause and for a 2pm march in Downtown Minneapolis.

We are united in demanding:
➡️ ICE must leave Minnesota now
➡️ The officer who killed be held legally accountable
➡️ No additional federal funding for ICE in the upcoming budget

When we move together, our power is impossible to ignore.

ICOM shares in the grief and sadness following the senseless killing of Renee Nicole Good. At the same time we are grateful for the incredible number of donations we have received during this time. ICOM wants to assure you that we are putting these funds to immediate use assisting our immigrant neighbors with their basic needs as they struggle to get groceries, pay rent, work and run errands. Thank you and keep being the light.
