After 20 years of advancing climate literacy, youth leadership, and a just transition, Climate Generation has made the difficult decision to wind down organizational operations.

Today is our last day.

This news may bring disappointment, surprise, or sadness. Climate Generation has been a professional and political home to many, and we hold this moment with deep care and gratitude.

Over the past year, we explored multiple paths forward: accelerating fundraising, restructuring, and partnership or merger options. Ultimately, continuing without sufficient, reliable resources would have compromised our values and the quality of our work. Choosing to wind down was not a decision made lightly, and how we end matters just as much as how we’ve led.

We’re proud that we’ve been able to wind down thoughtfully, ensuring staff had time to transition programs and resources, and creating space to collaborate with partners throughout the wind-down.

We’re reminded of the nursery log: a fallen tree in the forest becomes the foundation for new growth and what was built here is nourishing what comes next. Our curricula live on in classrooms. The youth we’ve co-mentored are organizing in their communities. Our partners continue advocating for climate justice across Minnesota and beyond.

For two decades, Climate Generation brought people together, shared knowledge, and supported meaningful action to address the systems driving the climate crisis. From local classrooms to international climate gatherings, from the Minnesota Youth Climate Summit to climate change education book clubs, our impact was created by you. We also want to thank everyone who came before the current staff at Climate Generation, our programs have been built over the course of twenty years, and we thank everyone who came before us!

We've never done this alone. Thank you for co-creating alongside us.

CG resources and some programming will live on. The last Gist and Teach Climate Tips have this info, links here:

The intention behind 'Eyewitness: Minnesota Voices on Climate Change', when it was published by Climate Generation in 2020, was to have it serve as a tool for facilitating conversations with local policymakers to inspire and strengthen their support for climate and clean energy solutions, and to elevate the HUMAN experience of climate change. This goal still rings true today. Personal stories can be one of the best sparks for action.

While our Eyewitness book isn't free, its discussion guide, which includes reflection prompts to help you think about your own climate story, and could apply to many climate stories available on our blog, is! You can find Eyewitness, its guide, and numerous personal climate story blogs on our website: https://climategen.org/resources/36345/eyewitness-minnesota-voices-on-climate-change/

Climate Generation, Rainbow Research, and our partners are building a roadmap to better align the Minnesota Climate Action Framework with the MN education system, and we want to hear from you. This project centers the real experiences of educators, students, and youth leaders to help spark statewide action that strengthens community resilience to climate change. If you are a teacher, student, school or district administrator, nonprofit educator, or youth leader, you’re invited to share your story through a one-hour interview. Participants receive a $50 gift card and the opportunity to help shape how education is included in Minnesota’s climate action planning. Learn more about the project here and sign up using the form.

Join Climate Generation and Project Drawdown on Wednesday, January 21st from 12:00 - 1:00 PM CT for our first Teach Climate Network free workshop of 2026!

This workshop introduces the power of climate storytelling as a tool for climate connection, education, and action. We’ll explore how personal narratives can bring climate science down to earth—making it human, local, and real. Drawing from Project Drawdown’s Neighborhood storytelling work, we’ll look at examples of how everyday people are shaping climate solutions. Participants will leave with a clearer sense of their own climate story and how to share it with courage and care.

We understand that some of these workshops do not work for educator's schedules, so all registrants will receive a recording and additional resources to their e-mail within 1 week of the event. We are striving to make our events more welcoming to all, with specific goals about racial equity and inclusivity. Your answers during registration will help us to know how we are doing.

We are mourning the murder of a Minneapolis legal observer and community member, orchestrated by ICE this morning, just one day after the Department of Homeland Security announced that “the largest DHS operation ever is happening right now in Minnesota.” Climate Generation stands in solidarity with our immigrant and refugee neighbors. Environmental and Climate Justice does not support the misconception that any human being is illegal. The idea of borders is not only dehumanizing, but cause environmental harm. All these issues are connected, and we must continue to show up for one another and stand up against these attacks on our communities. We cannot address the climate crisis without confronting systemic racism and state violence. Stay safe and continue to take action. You can follow the to receive alerts about ICE activity in your area.

This is terrible. When the Trump Administration denies climate change science and shuts down knowledge, we will not back down. In the face of these attacks, our fight is local. Defend truth, inspire climate justice education, and take action where we live.

The Trump administration is closing a NASA research library in Greenbelt, Maryland. The facility houses countless books and records that are unlikely to be digitized. It is part of the administration’s efforts to close research centers across the U.S. This will be the eighth closure of a NASA facility since 2022, following a trend in the agency’s reduction. Many of these facilities were novel research centers that studied the Earth, space, and invented new technologies. You can learn more at:

Thank you to everyone who has supported Climate Generation in 2025. In the face of this year's political challenges, we have remained rooted and resilient. We worked to make schools climate solutions across Minnesota, stand up against AI data centers, co-create legislation for climate education with young people in our Youth Environmental Activist program, create and provide free resources for educators and community members, and much more. Throughout this year, we have continued showing up, and we will continue to.

Thank you for being a part of our community, you've supported our work to further climate education, because it is a climate solution. Together, we will create a just and abundant world beyond climate crisis.

Last day to support our end of year fundraising goal of $50,000 before midnight tonight!

Every dollar you give matters. It goes straight towards supporting youth activists, helping teachers bring real climate science into classrooms, and pushing back on disinformation perpetuated by climate deniers and the well funded fossil fuel industry.
