A Tu Lado

A Tu Lado Supporting frontline health workers through collaborations in emergency medical education.

Apoyando a personal de salud de primera línea a traves de colaboraciones en la educación de emergencias médicas. By training local health workers invested in their community, A Tu Lado's programs create long-term change. Our students care for thousands of others, and many are also instructors whose efforts will sustain and multiply our impact long into the future. A Tu Lado's graduates include lay

citizens who provide basic first aid to their community; police officers, firefighters, and paramedics working on the front lines of pre-hospital care; doctors and nurses seeking emergency skills their medical education didn't afford them; university faculty, and others. We have trained 184 students in total since 2011 in Bolivia and Venezuela.

A Tu Lado's volunteer Will Heegaard is currently dispatched in the Philippines. He just wrote a great blog entry about his first two weeks on the ground.

The organization's emphasis on local sustainability is great to hear and sounds familiar to questions we always asked ourselves in A Tu Lado. Thanks for sharing, Will!

"After a disaster like this, IMC tries to move away from staffing their clinics with international medical volunteers as quickly as possible, and instead use local clinicians. The nationals are generally lower maintenance, harder working, and more attune to the cultural nuances of healthcare in their country."

Dear friends, it's time to share the news - A Tu Lado is transitioning into dormancy. Although we can't predict if we'll one day reactivate to invest in a new project site, we are thrilled to see a powerful legacy stemming from existing partners continuing our programs.

Thank you for the unwavering support shown over the past three years!

As of November 2013, A Tu Lado is a dormant organization. Our work for the past three years has been guided by the goal of making targeted investments in higher education programs and then responsibly ratcheting down our direct involvement. Today, A Tu Lado’s partners are equipped with the tools to…

Well done, Saint Paul Fire and Regions, for showing Minnesota can lead the way in emergency medicine.

Tim Franko received CPR for two hours and 45 minutes after a recent heart attack. Doctors believe it's the longest CPR in a case where a patient who had no heartbeat was successfully revived. But it's not the only recent case in Minnesota of a really long resuscitation.

Friends of A Tu Lado: Some exciting news on this Friday afternoon.

Venezuela's first (ever!) university-based EMT course has launched, thanks to the hard work of A Tu Lado's partners and the support YOU gave us all over the past 3 years. This is a huge step for A Tu Lado, our partners, and Venezuela.
