Our volunteer naturalist, Dave Crawford is leading his last Nature Walk of the season, Saturday, October 17 @1:00pm. This is a free event, but registration is required. Sign up and more information is on Eventbrite. “Nature Walk with a Naturalist: Fall Happenings Along Minnehaha Creek.”

Minnehaha Regional Park Plan Update

The Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board is going to be starting a Long-Range Strategic Planning process for Minnehaha Regional Park!

They have launched a web page to help keep people informed of updates. You can also sign up for email updates. Here’s the link.

The process will begin in 2026 and will involve meetings in the community to connect with and gain input from the public. It will also involve the seating of a 17-member community advisory committee (CAC).

Friends of Minnehaha Park will be hosting an informational meeting with updates featuring the Park Board’s Senior Planner assigned to the project, Colleen O’Dell, most likely to be scheduled in early December. Stay tuned.

We’ll be in Minnehaha Park lower glen on Saturday, Oct 3 from 10am-12pm for Buckthorn cutting, seed gathering and seed sowing. Long beaked sedge and maybe some White rattlesnake-root seed. It was a beautiful day outdoors at the Longfellow River Gorge Festival!

We love the festival and its friendly, relaxed vibe, especially on a beautiful day under towering oaks. It’s so great to have an event like the festival which invites families and friends to enjoy and learn about the beautiful park, the outdoors and their neighborhood together. Thank you, The Longfellow Community Council!!
