Last night, I walked out of the 𝗠𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 award ceremony disappointed in receiving no award. But by the time I arrived back at my hotel room, God had already started to work.

A Black woman, posted this picture of her three kids leaving a showing of my film at the Twin Cities Black Film Festival in Minneapolis, MN. She said, "𝙈𝙮 𝙠𝙞𝙙𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙚𝙣𝙟𝙤𝙮𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙩. 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨."

It then occurred to me that the film had already succeeded in its purpose. At the Columbia, Maryland screening, two couples approached me in tears, communicating that they would never forget what they saw and heard. After the Mystic showing, a Black woman told me she brought her daughter to see the film after hearing about it from Ann Nyberg's segment on WTNH News 8. She said it was deeply meaningful, and thanked me for what they had learned. And now, these three young Black kids in Minneapolis learned about the sacrifices of Black people in the creation of our nation...things they don't learn in school.

And so we continue. Message received, Father. 🙏🏿
