We were thrilled and grateful to see such a wonderful turnout for last night's Naila and the Uprising - Screening and Q+A.

A huge thank you to our volunteers who helped get the event up and ready. We are also thrilled to see reps from the Anti-War Committee arrive to share news about a rally they're holding this Wednesday in St. Paul.

If you want to know about more local organizations like them which are dedicated to supporting the cause of the Palestinian people, be sure to check out the ones listed in our final image.

And last but not least, a huge thank you to Zeina Azzam, Hala Alyan, and Zaina Alsous for letting us republish their poetry in our booklets. Their words enriched an evening dedicated toward reconsidering just one way art can be used as a tool for speaking truth to power.

We are thrilled to announce that our next screening will be of "Naila and the Uprising" (2017).

Mixing animation and live-action, Julia Bacha crafts a tender portrait of Naila Ayesh, the first Palestinian woman widely reported to have a miscarriage while in Israeli custody. Yet from tragedy, Naila emerges to shed any vestige of victimhood and stands at the forefront of a movement, predominantly shaped by her fellow women, that has global ramifications.

Inspiring and enraging in equal measure, Bacha's revealing and compassionate tribute to the resilience of one woman blossoms into a larger portrait of the women who have been instrumental in the struggle for Palestinian autonomy and human dignity. We are honored to screen this film at Nicholson Hall, room 135, on April 3rd at 7:00 PM. Stay tuned for further updates on event details.

Our first event was a huge success!

We'd like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Craig Laurence Rice , Keri Pickett and Winona LaDuke - Ojibwe Business Owner for taking time to speak at our event. And we are extremely grateful to everyone who braved the icy roads to come see First Daughter and the Black Snake and to hear our extraordinary speakers.

We couldn't have hoped for a more warm and welcoming first event and can't wait to share the exciting plans we have in store for our future screenings here in the Twin Cities.

🚨EVENT UPDATE🚨

Our event will be taking place in NICHOLSON HALL and not Folwell as previously advertised. The room number remains the same (135) and there will be flyers posted outside of Folwell to provide directions for anyone needing to get to Nicholson, which is a quick walk away!

We'll also be keeping an eye on the weather forecast to see how nasty the roads get. Keep an eye on this page to see whether we will have to postpone, but for the moment our event is still due to take place this Wednesday at 7:00 PM.

Let us introduce you to our moderator.

For our screening of First Daughter and the Black Snake, we will be joined by programmer, filmmaker, and educator Craig Laurence Rice. Craig is a senior film programmer for the MSP Film Society , curating monthly screenings every first Thursday at the Capri Theater highlighting contemporary and classic works of Black American Cinema.

Craig’s filmmaking credits include the award-winning HBO documentary "Half Past Autum: The Life and Works of Gordon Park". He has also directed over 30 music videos for black artists such as Prince, Mavis Staples, and Patti LaBelle. Craig holds positions at McNally Smith College of Music and Minneapolis College of Art and Design and has also taught at Minneapolis Media Institute and Perpich Center for the Arts High School.

We are so fortunate to have Craig featured in our very first event this Wednesday, starting at 7:00 PM in Folwell Hall 135 at the University of Minnesota's Twin Cities campus. We can't wait to join the wonderful conversation Craig will lead with our guest speakers.

The discussion will be moderated by programmer Craig Laurence Rice and is free to the public (with a suggested donation of $5 to $10 dollars).
