ICYMI, Linsey McMurrin (of Peacemaker Resources) and Anna VonRueden and Brittany Seidel (of FamilyWise) spent time earlier this month at the Annual Radiothon to End Child Abuse in Bemidji. In partnership with Hubbard Broadcasting and the Bemidji Area United Way, the event raised awareness and funds to support kids and families in Beltrami County and beyond!

Join us Monday for some time together, to listen, learn, and discuss how we’ve been impacted by our experiences, and to support each other in community. ❤️‍🩹

Boozhoo everyone!

On behalf of the Tribal NEAR Science and Community Wisdom team, we hope that the end of the year and holiday season is gentle for you. As we move through Winter Solstice and look forward to the light of the coming year, we want to offer community and support in a good way.

We will be leading an Understanding NEAR Science ONLINE workshop on Monday, December 29th from 1pm-3pm. While we understand many of us find ourselves in a busy season, we also know in our own journeys how important it is to find opportunities for connection, learning and community in these times as well!

Registration Link: https://forms.gle/6DEqNTpG6ojNX4cp6

We will do a brief overview of the content around brain science, understanding how we have been impacted by what has happened in our lives and of those that have come before us, and then have ample time for connection and reflection about all of the protective factors, buffers, and good things we have in our lives and communities that help support us through it all.

Please consider joining us for this two hour session, and please share with others in our tribal communities and with partners who support our communities.

We will also be announcing plans for 2026 about how we can continue these important conversations and stay connected as well.

Miigwech and take care, to all of our relatives and community!

In this season of gratitude and giving, there is so much we are thankful for. Finding gratitude and hope is particularly important in challenging times. In a recent blog post, FamilyWise CEO Ann Gaasch shared a meaningful gratitude practice called "The Gratitude Game" that you can try on your own, with colleagues, or with family and friends. Read the post to learn more:

Last month, the team came together for a focus group and reflected on all that we have accomplished over the past year of the Tribal NEAR Science and Community Wisdom Project. It was particularly exciting to have a graphic notetaker join us, and we are so grateful for the beautiful artwork that she created from our conversation!

Native American Heritage Month is an invitation to learn more about Indigenous communities. If you missed it, take time to listen to MPR's conversation last month about celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day. The conversation features MPR's Native News team, and Linsey McMurrin joins the call to highlight the Remembering Resilience podcasts!

MPR News editor and guest host Leah Lemm celebrates Indigenous Peoples Day with reporters who are part of our Native News team. Leah and her guests talk about how they cover Native communities, tribal nations and people, all around Minnesota every day.
