Northside Juneteenth Weekend Celebration A series of Juneteenth Celebrations the weekend leading up to Juneteenth on the Northside of MPLS.

For the past six years, the Northside Juneteenth Celebration has proudly honored the Juneteenth holiday with a vibrant, community-centered event in North Minneapolis. What began in 2020 as a single-day celebration on the Saturday before Juneteenth with a number of partners has grown into a full weekend of festivities since 2022. Rooted in culture, joy, and togetherness, this annual gathering uplifts the legacy of Black freedom, resilience, and excellence—right here in the heart of our community.

Today we honor freedom, resilience, culture, and the continued pursuit of justice. Thank you to everyone who thought of us, supported our efforts, attended events, volunteered, donated, or simply took time to reflect on the significance of this day.

We hope you found meaningful ways to celebrate, connect, and honor the legacy of those who came before us. We truly enjoyed celebrating with each of you at your events today across Minnesota!

What an incredible evening at our Northside Juneteenth - Community Movie Night at the YMCA! 🎬🍿

From the families who came and watched Miss Juneteenth and/or Swapped, the children laughing, the teens connecting, the parents visiting, and neighbors simply enjoying time together.

We truly thank you for showing up and helping us kick off Juneteenth Weekend in such a meaningful way. Events like this remind us that Juneteenth is more than a celebration of freedom — it is an opportunity to come together, build relationships, create memories, and continue to strengthen our village.

We’ve got you covered! Here are the FAQs for Friday’s Community Movie Night!

To make sure there’s something for everyone, we’ll be showing two movies simultaneously:

✨ Miss Juneteenth (recommended for ages 13+) in the gym

✨ Swapped for our younger movie-goers in the garage

Every guest will receive a FREE meal ticket upon entry, good for:

🌭 One hot dog

🥔 One bag of chips

🥤 One beverage

Choose from bottled water, juice boxes, or for our teens and adults, a fun Dirty Soda Bar option!

And of course…

🍿 FREE unlimited popcorn for everyone!
