Mish A Foundation is expanding our Rebuild Jamaica Initiative through a new relationship with St. Jude’s Primary School.

Today, our team visited the school to provide school supplies, solar lights, and toys while also spending time with school leadership and staff to better understand the community, its students, and opportunities for continued support.

What began as a resource visit is becoming something much larger.

This marks the beginning of a partnership through which we hope to provide ongoing resource support and develop meaningful youth programming for students at St. Jude’s Primary School.

Our approach to Rebuild Jamaica continues to evolve beyond short-term relief. We believe sustainable impact requires listening first, building trusted local relationships, and investing in institutions that are already deeply connected to the communities they serve.

Today was an important first step.

We are grateful to the principal, teachers, and staff of St. Jude’s Primary School for welcoming Mish A Foundation and sharing their school community with us. We look forward to continuing these conversations and thoughtfully building what comes next.

Prepared With Care continues. 🇯🇲

This October, Mish A Foundation will return to Jamaica as we continue our commitment to supporting communities through our Rebuild Jamaica Initiative.

Among the resources making the journey with us are these 2-in-1 solar lights and power banks, generously donated through Goodera and assembled by their volunteers.

For communities vulnerable to severe weather, natural disasters, power outages, and infrastructure disruptions, access to reliable lighting and the ability to keep essential devices charged can make a meaningful difference during an emergency.

These resources will be distributed directly to communities we serve in Jamaica as part of our Prepared With Care: Community & Global Emergency Readiness efforts.

Today Y.C.C.E. took us to Como Zoo & Conservatory!

Why the zoo, you ask? Because sometimes the best classroom doesn’t have four walls.

Today our photography students traded the traditional classroom for a day of hands-on learning at Como Zoo & Conservatory. With cameras in hand, they practiced capturing wildlife, nature, movement, textures, details, and the world around them from entirely new perspectives.

A special focus for today was macro photography, learning how to slow down, get closer, and notice the tiny details that are easy to overlook. From the textures of plants and flowers to patterns found throughout the conservatory, students were challenged to think beyond simply taking a picture and instead be intentional about composition, focus, lighting, depth of field, and storytelling.

Experiences like today are what Y.C.C.E. is all about: giving young people opportunities to learn by doing, explore their creativity, develop real technical skills, and discover that inspiration can be found just about anywhere.

Today wasn’t just a trip to the zoo. It was our classroom.

And judging by what we saw on those cameras today… We think we have some photographers in the making.

Six weeks. Countless moments of growth. Infinite possibility.

Today marked the conclusion of the 6th week of the pilot cohort of the Youth Creative Career Empowerment (Y.C.C.E.) Program, and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than by taking our students beyond the classroom and into the industries they’ve been exploring all summer.

Throughout the day our students stepped inside professional creative spaces, learned directly from industry experts, asked thoughtful questions, and experienced what creative careers look like in the real world.

This is what Y.C.C.E. has always been about.

Not simply teaching creative skills.

Creating access.

Because when young people can see themselves in these spaces, they begin believing they belong in them.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible partners for opening your doors and investing your time, knowledge, and encouragement into the next generation of creative leaders.

West Photo — for introducing our students to the art, business, and technology behind professional photography.

The Urban Light — for giving our aspiring DJs and producers an authentic look inside the music industry while generously sharing your expertise.

The Journey Event Center — for showing our students how creativity, entrepreneurship, hospitality, and event production come together to create unforgettable experiences.

Your partnership helped transform curiosity into possibility.

While today marks the end of our six-week classroom experience, Y.C.C.E. is far from over.

Our students now enter the next chapter of the program: Leadership in Action.

Over the coming weeks they’ll continue building on what they’ve learned through deeper career exploration, leadership development, mentorship, community service, real-world experiences, and meaningful opportunities to put their skills into practice.

Because preparing young people for creative careers isn’t just about developing talent.

It’s about developing leaders.

Thank you to every student, family, facilitator, volunteer, and community partner who helped make this pilot possible.

What started as a vision is now becoming a real space for young people to create, explore, lead, and grow.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve introduced you to the facilitators, the culture, the creativity, and the community behind this program.

The Youth Creative Career Empowerment (Y.C.C.E.) Program was built to help high school youth of color connect their creativity to real-world opportunity through exposure, mentorship, and hands-on experiences.

Using turntablism and live remixing, he transforms details about the program into a dynamic, creative expression, showing exactly what’s possible when skill, artistry, and innovation come together.

Mickey Breeze is more than a DJ. He is a producer, recording artist, and educator with over 14 years of experience, having performed at major events including SXSW, Soundset Music Festival, Twin Cities Pride, and the Saint Paul Winter Carnival, while also teaching with organizations like Slam Academy and Minneapolis Public Schools.
