BIG ANNOUNCEMENT, MINGO JUNCTION & JEFFERSON COUNTY!

Good afternoon to all of our citizens, families, and Facebook friends!

We have a REALLY BIG announcement to make!

After several months of planning, conversations, and working together as a team to create something positive and meaningful for the youth of Jefferson County, we are proud to announce the beginning of the FIRST Police Explorer Program in Jefferson County — “Police & Community”!

This program is about much more than law enforcement. It is about building relationships, developing leadership, creating opportunities, teaching responsibility, and helping our young people see a positive future for themselves and their community.

If you want to see a difference, BE the difference you want to see.
Move forward. Be part of the change. Help us build a stronger future for Jefferson County — together.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR OUR FIRST “30”EXPLORERS!

The program is open to ALL youth who live in Jefferson County, ages 14–18.

Enrollment Fee: $100

• $80 will go toward the Explorer’s uniform
• $20 will go toward their Safety Cadet fee
• The Mingo Junction Police Department will not keep any of this money.

If your child is accepted into the program, we ask that the enrollment fee be paid by check to Mingo Junction Explorer Program.

Parents — bring your kids and come learn about the program!

During this meeting, we will explain the program, discuss the expectations and requirements, answer questions, and provide important information about how your child can become one of our first 30 Explorers.

This is an exciting opportunity for our young people to learn, grow, lead, serve, and build relationships with law enforcement and their community. We have A LOT of information to share with you!

Today We Remember. May we never forget the lives lost that day. 25 years ago today we lost many brothers and sisters to a horrific act of violence. God bless the brave men and women who gave it all to help their fellow man. God bless the USA 🇺🇸

Firemen love good BBQ! Today we were invited by Steubenville Firefighters Local 228 to challenge them in their annual rib eating contest at Texas Roadhouse. A team of 4 was ready to take on the challenge to help support a great cause. Proceeds from dining at the restaurant today benefit Tunnel to Towers foundation! Our MJFD team brought home first place 🥇. Great job guys!!

Another Grant was received from the Denis Leary Firefighters Foundation. We received a turnout gear washer. This helps cut down on firefighter exposure to carcinogens. Thank you to the Leary foundation for helping with our mission.

Grant Awarded!!! The department was awarded the FEMA AFG Grant as part of a multi - jurisdictional effort. The grant also included Toronto, Empire, Stratton, Pleasant Hill, and Pottery addition. Our department received 20 new MSA G1 SCBAs, 40 cylinders, and a RIT pack. Grants like this are necessary to help replace critical and aging equipment.

In the early morning hours your firefighters responded to a single vehicle accident. Per dispatch the vehicle was reported to have driven through a guardrail at the bottom of Logan Ave and descended down a steep hillside toward the railroad. During initial response units were advised that the vehicle was on fire with 4 occupants inside. Squad company 4711 arrived first and deployed a hose line working on fire containment. A bystander stated that there was possibly 5  juvenile occupants two of which were in the bed of the pickup truck. Bystanders also stated they saw 2-3 of the occupants fleeing the area. Additional units were requested to the scene to assist with search and rescue. Units searched the immediate surrounding area and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department deployed drones to aide in locating victims. Ultimately two patients were located in serious condition and were transported by ground and medical helicopter. No other occupants were located in the area and the search was terminated due to reports of the individuals having left the area. Thank you to Steubenville Fire, Brilliant Fire, Stat Medevac, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Steubenville PD, Jefferson County 911, and Marcinos Towing for their assistance on this incident.

Last night your firefighters performed a high stakes vehicle rescue. We were dispatched for an occupied vehicle in the creek in the area of JSW Steel. Crews arrived to find a motor vehicle crash with one vehicle into the creek. One occupant was located in the vehicle and was conscious. Crews preformed rapid extraction of the patient via ladder, rope systems, and stokes basket. The patient was then transported by EMS for evaluation. Firefighters then assisted Marcinos Towing with removing the vehicle from the water. Thank you to Brilliant FD Station 33 and Mingo Junction Police Department for their assistance
