As Easter approaches we at The Bay Six Project understand that basic needs such as a family meal on Easter and Easter baskets for your kids can sometimes be the first things cut from your budget. So once again we are aiming to help meet that need for members of the . We have decided as a t...

Here is the adjusted Bay Six: Brown Bag Diner menu for the next few weeks as we work to make sure that kids who are out of school (and their parents) have a lunch to eat each day. This menu is only possible through the efforts of many people. We will make sure to create a post that acknowledges them for their hard work and giving of their time and resources. In the meantime, here is a run down of how things will work:

We will hand out the Brown Bag Meals between 11 am and 1 pm Monday through Saturday at our downtown Mingo building. (618 Commercial St. Mingo Junction, OH 43938)

Those receiving the meals will show up, tell the volunteer at the window their name. The volunteer will go to the back, grab their bag(s), and hand it to the person receiving the meal(s) and they will go on their way.

If we get requests from those who cannot make it to the downtown location, we will work to create a drop off point closer to their neighborhoods.

The most important thing right now is to make sure that IF YOU NEED A MEAL, you go to https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSedi-7SCahv9wvgSUE-2-JCMr5rbKCeDN0HAXU47lI-lbC4gQ/viewform and fill out the form so that we can make sure to prepare enough food for everyone. We will try to have a couple extra just in case but to guarantee that we will have a meal for you, you MUST SIGN UP.

Also if you want to volunteer your time by either prepping the bags, handing out the bags, or delivering to a distribution point you can fill out the Volunteer form at baysixmingo.org so that we have your info to get ahold of you to schedule a time for you.

If you want to donate items (items on the menu are always needed), you can bring them to our building between 10am and 2pm daily. If you want to make a tax deductible contribution towards this effort, you can visit www.thebaysixproject.com and donate online or you can bring any monetary donation to our Mingo building. All we ask is that you put it in an envelope with your contact information with it (Name, Address, email, etc.) so that we can get you a receipt once things return to normal.

If you are a church, business, or organization and want to partner with us as either a drop off/pick up point for the meals or volunteer to make sandwiches/ provide meals or become a financial partner please contact us at 7405356229.

Other than that, please continue to spread the word by sharing this post. Tell your friends and family to share as well so that we can make sure nobody goes all day without eating. Please keep following the recommendations of washing your hands, using hand sanitizer, and staying home if you are feeling ill in any way. Be Smart. Not Fearful. We are all in this together.

As we posted about the other day and after having a handful of kids grab some food today after school, we feel that it is time to officially introduce our newest project:

BAY SIX: BROWN BAG DINER

You can visit our website (www.thebaysixproject.org) to see the newest updates including this Menu that we created for kids and adults to choose from along with our upcoming night of poetry & worship featuring Egypt Speaks & Danny Shipley.

We know that there are kids (and adults) in every community who do not get enough to eat. Most students will eat lunch at school around 11 am or Noon then will go until 6 pm or later before eating dinner. Some not eating breakfast, and some even not guaranteed dinner. On the weekends it may be even worse. In hopes to combat hunger and serve the community we have launched Bay Six: Brown Bag Diner. This project allows for students (and adults) to stop in after school or work and grab a small FREE "brown bag" meal that can be chosen from our menu (pictured). Each person can choose one item from each section to build their meal. The menu consists of 5 sections: a main choice , a salty snack, a sweet treat, a healthy side, and a drink. They can choose to eat it in our building, or take it home with them. We know that this may not be the most nutritious meal that they will eat (we do hope to be able to get healthier & fresher options as we grow the project) but we also know it is better than the nothing that most of these students usually get.
We are believing that Bay Six: Brown Bag Diner will make a huge impact in this community but only by people like YOU getting involved. It will be funded/ supplied solely by donations from people in community. Those people, who hope to see that every person has enough to eat each day despite differences in social status, race, or beliefs will be the main reason this project succeeds. Please consider getting involved by either donating food items (contact us for donation delivery/pick up options), or by making a monetary donation by clicking (www.thebaysixproject.com).

We are super excited to finally start to see some of the vision that we have not been able to launch coming to fruition. For those who may not know: A little over 3 years ago, we opened Bay Six:Mingo to serve the community of Mingo Junction, Ohio.

Our vision was to not only serve the young people of Mingo by providing a positive place to hang out, but to also serve adults with the main goal of helping restore or establish family and create a sense of belonging for those who needed it. Part of that vision is to implement an after school meal program in which kids can stop in and grab a quick “brown bag” meal to either take home or eat in our building while they hang out.

Up until this point, due to multiple reasons that were out of our control, we have not been able to get this project started. However, with our new building open and the extra space it provides, we feel that now is the right time to launch a new part of our Bay Six: commUNiTY project. Today we went shopping and grabbed multiple items that can be made into these “brown bag” meals. The idea is that each bag will consist of one “entree” type item (hot pocket, mac n cheese, small frozen meal, or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, etc.), one salty snack (crackers, chips, popcorn, pretzels, etc), one sweet treat (cookies, crackers with peanut butter, chocolate, etc.) and a cup of fruit. Bottled water or cans of pop/soda will also be available to go along with the brown bags. The hope of this project is that not only do we help meet the need of hungry kids or adults, but to also encourage more positive interaction in the lives of those who may otherwise just head home to a lonely house or go make decisions that could negatively affect their future.

With that, starting today we will have “brown bag” or “quick meals” available for kids to grab after school or adults to grab after work. (CONTINUES IN COMMENTS)..
