BAGS Basset Rescue Beautiful Aging Gracefully Seniors (BAGS) is a 501(c)3 tax exempt charitable organization dedicated to the care of senior and special need basset hounds.

BAGS has supported several local rescues by providing individualized care for bassets that were unable to be kenneled, due to health, pregnancy or disposition. While some of the dogs in BAGS care are considered unadoptable, due to their special needs, others are looking for their forever home.

Shhhhhhhhhh, I'm whispering, Louie is finally asleep. He had a dental today and 4 teeth removed. His face had swollen from an infection and he had completed antibiotic therapy. Louie is 14 1/2 years old and he has a bad heart, a risk for anesthesia, but an abscess and painful teeth are very bad for him too. He had an ECG this morning, and we went for it. My great vet family "tag teamed" Louie and he was off the table in an hour. His teeth look beautiful, the tartar was terribly built up and not 1, but 4 infected teeth gone.
He has some dementia and paces a lot, but after many tries of helping him into a bed and petting him, after a couple hours, he is in a sound sleep, hopefully for the rest of the night. These kind of days, you just have to plan on not getting much done and considering it a win win for a successful surgery that will help Louie!

Julie had a periodontal Tuesday and had 7 painful teeth removed! Today, she finally ate a little bit and is perking up. She loves her bones. Her and Bubba are the resident “bone collectors!”

Look! Debbie's Dawgs is doing a $10 THURSDAY to help with Dora and Cooper's big fat vet bills!

Oh boy, $10 THURSDAY for BAGS Basset Rescue's Dora and Cooper. When it rains, it pours! Dora just cost the rescue $1587 for the removal of some cysts, one of which involved removing most of her tail - the cyst there was into the vertabrae. Dora's the "Frankenbasset" below - she's a mostly red girl but not in the pics below! Cooper is a new guy to the rescue and although a couple of other dentals are needed by other hounds, his HAD to come first. He was a stinky boy with 14 abscessed teeth. Yes, 14! $1180 is what his dental cost and, although he's worth every penny, it's wrecked the rescue's budget. His snout swelled up pretty good and he was a miserable boy for a few days . . Cooper's 13 and lost his dad, ending up at the shelter. But he's safe now and is feeling better with those rotten teeth gone! By the way, Cooper's not shy about stealing a dog bowl off the counter. Not sure he'll get to do that again!
