Bullying can be difficult to recognize, especially when it doesn't look the way we expect it to. That’s why it’s important to talk with kids about what’s happening in their lives and create space for them to come to you when something feels wrong.

You don't have to have all the answers. 𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧. 𝐀𝐬𝐤 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. 𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧.

Helping children heal can begin with helping them express what they’re feeling. Here at the CAC, that often happens through play therapy. 💙

Our therapist has specifically requested these items to use in trauma-informed play therapy sessions with the children we serve. Through these items, children explore emotions, practice coping skills, and work through difficult experiences at their own pace.

“Be careful” sounds helpful, but it doesn’t really tell kids what to do if something feels off.

Try giving them a plan instead:
'“You can call me anytime. If you want to come home, I’ll come get you.”

Simple. Clear. Easy to remember. 💛

Sleepovers can be fun, but a few simple conversations before and after can help kids feel more comfortable speaking up.

Before they go, ask about the plan. Make sure they know they can call you, come home, or leave a situation that feels wrong.

Afterward, keep it casual. Ask about what they did, who they spent time with, what games they played, and whether there was anything they didn’t like.

You don’t have to ask everything at once. The goal is simply to make it easy for your child to talk to you. 💛

𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐤𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞. 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞, 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬.

Safe adults don’t ask children to keep secrets from caregivers or create private relationships with them. They respect boundaries around touch, privacy, and personal space. And they don’t make children responsible for managing an adult’s emotions.

Healthy boundaries help create safer relationships and safer spaces for kids. 💙

“Stranger danger” is only one piece of the safety conversation.

Children should also learn that unsafe behavior can come from someone they know, like, or trust. Teaching body safety, boundaries, and how to recognize when something feels wrong can help give kids the words and confidence to speak up.

Safety isn’t just about who someone is. It’s about how they behave. 💙
