Incredible season! Chasing greatness doesn’t rest! Season started Monday!
Turf Facts:
Fact #1 Out of the the 31 games we played against playoff bound opponents only Decatur plays on natural grass!
Fact #2 Graham has hosted multiple playoff series every week. We were set to host a bi-district series…but you guessed it, rain caused them to cancel. They moved games to Clyde.
Fact #3 our in season tournament is getting harder to fill. Coaches are opting to find turf fields because canceling could cost them 5 games.
Fact #4 If we would have won last week and made our way to state, we’d had to find another practice location for this week due to wet fields.
Fact #5 100% of our in state away games were on turf! *Only one game in Bama was on grass!
Fact #6 The inability to attract and host tournaments and playoffs not only cost us the proceeds from those games, we also lose the economic impact for our community which result in lost taxes. Games bring people to our hotels, eat at our restaurants, fuel, shop. Also, games create extra income for staff, local PD, etc. Every dollar generated creates more revenue.
Opinion: One point behind the mindset is we have a home-field advantage, playoff games are on turf. That’s when it counts. Balls play differently on turf as well. Players expect hops that don’t happen. Throws change as well. You can use the turf. Runners over run bases. We were out twice in the second round bc of this.
