A Little Thought

It has been said that, "Facing adversity, wielding power wisely, and standing for justice are hallmarks of a good man."
And that pretty well sums up our beloved Johnny Johnson.

I think he would have been very proud and grateful for the beautiful service of celebration for him today. He was laid to rest today with so many family and friends in attendance.

The church was filled to capacity. Johnny was loved by so many.
His gracious spirit and his giving heart changed the lives of those around him constantly, especially us, here at the Council on Aging.

He will be greatly missed. Please be in prayer for his beautiful family and our staff as well.

When I read this, I thought not only of my boss, but my friend and my brother in Christ, Johnny.
"To have integrity and character as a man means to consistently be honest, accountable, trustworthy, and committed to doing the right
and moral thing regardless of how he might be affected by it. In other words, a good man doesn’t just say what he feels and believes to be right—he acts on what is right.

Thank you for being a "good man" Johnny!

We are all so very heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Executive Director, Johnny Johnson. He passed away very early this morning at his home.

He was a gentleman of the highest regard and a wonderful supervisor for all of the staff here at the Council on Aging. He had a huge heart for our seniors in Webster Parish and never met a stranger. His giving heart and his positive attitude changed many lives.

Condolences to his wife, Becky, and his wonderful family and friends. We ask you to keep them in your prayers during this difficult time.

Our thoughts go to the following verse:
Matthew 25:21:
His master said to him, "Well done my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master."

"CLIENT OF THE WEEK" ((AUGUST 10TH - 14TH)
MS. TINY HOLLINGSWORTH

Tiny was born in rural Webster Parish and moved to Minden with her Mom and family in 1954. She said her given name was Tiny, and that it is the name on her birth certificate.

She graduated from Webster High School in 1960. She said the campus, then, was where the Webster Junior High is now.

Shortly after graduation she married a military man and moved to Tacoma, Washington and lived there three years. She returned to Minden in 1963. She had one son.

Tiny has always enjoyed serving people and she began a thirty- seven year job with Meadowview Health and Rehab Center, here in Minden, and retired from there in 2011!

Ms. Hollingsworth has been attending the Council on Aging for over ten years. She loves playing all the different bingo games.
She said, "I just love the people here and it is a great place to come." She enjoys the food very much, and the fellowship.

She says her other pastimes are watching her favorite TV shows and reading, especially her Bible.

CLIENT OF THE WEEK - AUGUST 3RD - AUGUST, 7TH!
Meet Mr. Otto Krouse!

Otto was born on his family homeplace near Minden, and still lives there today. He said that he tore the old house down and built his present home just behind his old homeplace, and presently resides there.

He attended MInden High School and graduated in 1955. He also
attended Southern State in Magnolia for a little while after being called up to serve in the Army. He was in for two years active duty and one and a half years inactive duty. He was in the Vietnam War.

He had four brothers and 3 sisters. And he stated that just about every member of his immediate family served in the service in one way or the other. He was indeed proud to serve his country.

He and his wife reared two daughters and had several foster children along the way. He said, "There was never a dull moment."

Otto worked for 25 years at Kast Metal, and trained welders while there. He retired from the Minden School Board after thirteen years of service in his community, He credits his father for his work ethic because he began working for his Daddy when he was just a small boy. He stated, "My Daddy kept me busy all the time, and that kept me out of trouble."

He has been attending the Council on Aging for at least fifteen years he said, he loves the people here.

Say Hello to Our “Client of the Week,” – July 27th - 31st
Ms. Ruby Smith

Ms. Ruby was born in Detroit, Michigan. She moved to Heflin, in the sixties with her Mother and Daddy. They lived with her grandmother for several years.

She attended and graduated from Coleman High School in Gibsland in 1963 and enjoyed her school days there.

When Ruby was older, she purchased some property in Dubberly where she presently resides.

She said that she had worked at several interesting jobs: The garment factory in Ringgold, where they made aprons, at a Lumber Company in Doyline, and as a line worker at the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant near Minden. She says that she really enjoyed working.

She had four children, three girls and a son.

Ms. Ruby has been attending the Council on Aging for over ten years, and she loves to come as often as she can.
She said, “It is just like home for me.”
”Bingo” is her favorite pastime and activity every day.

Please congratulate Ruby Smith when you see her, for being our “Client of the Week.”

Job Description
Title: Program Director
Supervised By: Executive Director
Job Summary: Assists director in day-to-day operations. Supervise meals drivers, van driver, homemakers, personal care attendants, and receptionist. Compiles performance reports on computer for congregate and home-delivered meals and senior center activities. Prepares reports for the Office of Elderly Affairs and the Department of Health and Hospitals monthly. Coordinates inter and intra agency activities and efforts. Responsible for certified persons receiving appropriate services. Certifies applicants for commodities. Makes bank deposits. Assists persons filing for Medicaid. Keeps director informed of any changes in day-to-day operation. Works with other service-providing agencies in interest of the elderly. Other assigned duties.
Education: High school graduate with 2 years of college or equivalent work experience in a people-related field. Basic computer training in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of WellSky Aging and Disability software is considered a plus.
Experience At least one year working with the elderly or other service providing agency
Knowledge or
Skills Knowledge of basic office procedures, Computer operator skills, Oral and written communication skills, supervisory skills. Capable of preparing oral and written reports. Ability to relate to the elderly and their problems. Be sensitive to physical and personality changes in clients.

A Little Thought

Well, another month has flown by, and the heat has not let up as yet. We are still seeking a few fans for our Annual Fan Drive. There are so many seniors who could use a boost during these 90 degree plus days and nights. The heat index is high as well.

“Daily high temperatures are around 93°F, rarely falling below 86°F or exceeding 99°F. The highest daily average high temperature is 93°F on July 26.

Daily low temperatures are around 73°F, rarely falling below 68°F or exceeding 77°F. The highest daily average low temperature is 74°F on July 24.

For reference, on July 25, the hottest day of the year, temperatures in Minden typically range from 74°F to 93°F, while on January 7, the coldest day of the year, they range from 38°F to 57°F.” (Copied – Weather Spark)
