After 10 years, the Douglas County Junior Rodeo made its return to our Northern Nevada community, and we were grateful to be a small part of it. Our team had the opportunity to volunteer and help run the PeeWee events, and it was great to see so many young cowboys and cowgirls getting their start in the arena, right in front of our eyes!

Events like these are vital to give the next generation opportunities to meet, compete against, and uplift others in their community, as well as build confidence, and develop a love for the sport of rodeo. There were many local clubs and organizations that came together to make the event happen, huge thank you to everyone who dedicated their time and hard work to bringing this rodeo back to Douglas County. Thank you to the Long family and the folks with S7 Livestock for being the force behind it!

We appreciate all those who continue to invest in our youth and help keep the future of rodeo alive!

One thing’s for sure, we couldn’t have a Mutton Bustin’ without the sheep! We have to extend a huge thank you to Josh with S7 Livestock L.L.C , who not only provides the sheep for our events, but also sponsored this past weekend’s Mutton Bustin’. Josh is incredible to work with, and we truly appreciate everything he does for us, our young riders, and the future of rodeo. We’re lucky to have him as part of the DTBAC family!!

We had some pretty amazing prize sponsors for our Mutton Bustin's this year, and this past weekend was no exception. Thank you to Ranahan Customs for creating these beautiful buckles, and to Wickstrom Ace Hardware for supporting the mission enough to allow us to award over 20 of them!!

We also received some awesome goodie bags from Cavender's that were handed to 12 kiddos this past weekend, and we can't say thank you to them enough as well.

It truly takes a village and we are so grateful for ours!

The official 2027 DTBAC Mutton Bustin’ Calendar is now available online!!! We wanted to create something that gives young riders across the country a little inspiration and motivation right from home. The Mutton Bustin’ Calendar is filled with rodeo fun facts, western heritage dates like National Day of the Cowboy, Cowgirl, and Horse, motivational quotes, and photos from our 2026 season!!

And if your child rode with us in 2026… who knows, they just might be in it!

To end our weekend and officially end our 2026 DTBAC events, we also ran two Dare to Run Barrel Race Jackpots this weekend AND awarded our year end champions!! Overall, this barrel race season brought nearly 400 runs through the gate, and we awarded approximately $30,000 back to our racers through cash payouts, buckles, year-end awards, and saddle certificates!!

A huge thank you to every racer who entered up this season, along with the crew behind the scenes who kept each race moving whether that be our barrel setters, gate crew, scorekeepers, announcers, arena ground crew, and everyone who jumped in where needed.

BIG congratulations to our Open winners: Laney Elmore, Emma Elmore, Courtney Butler, Carolyn Aikins, and Holli Else, our Youth winners Claire Conine, Emma Elmore, and Evelyn Ayo, and our Peewee Champion Rose Steen!!!

And just like that, that’s a wrap on the 2026 DTBAC Mutton Bustin’ Series!!! AND what a year it was. This year, more than 250 rides came through the chutes, with roughly 2,000 people in the stands cheering on the next generation of cowboys and cowgirls. Over 20 buckles were awarded throughout the year, and for many of these kids, it was the very first buckle they had ever won! That alone makes every behind-the-scenes hour worth it.

To every kid who climbed into the chute, every parent who trusted us with their little cowboy or cowgirl, and every family member who showed up to cheer them on, thank you for being part of this season.

A huge thank you also goes to the crew and volunteers who make these events possible. From check-in and handing out back numbers to sheep handling, chute help, picking kids up after their rides, announcing, scoring, setup and cleanup, there are so many hands behind every single ride. We could not do this without you.

And to our 2026 sponsors: thank you for believing in this program and investing in these kids. Your support allows us to create opportunities, award scholarships and prizes, grow the series, and continue giving first-generation and young cowboys and cowgirls a place to get their start.
