Prayers for our sweet ole' man Clem..
We've had long day trying to get him comfortable with Veterinary help.

Started with pain & rapid breathing last night, the fever and sweats followed (even with Banamine) just a short few hours later. Running fluids in the comfort of his own stall and with a friend to look at, hopefully we continue to improve throughout the night.

Last year we almost lost Clem to pleural effusion & renal failure. We are seeing the same thing this go around but have caught it early. Hopefully we can treat him and he comes around on top. He's a tough guy and he is so loved..

🐴 The Hidden Harm of Hard Tying: What the Research Reveals 🐴

Hard tying horses—leaving them fastened in a way that gives them no option to move or release—is a common but deeply concerning practice when it leads to pull-back responses.

Whether in halters, bridles, or other headgear, when a horse panics and pulls back, the damage can be far more than behavioral.

Scientific evidence highlights that when a horse pulls back, the force exerted on the poll, cervical spine, and facial nerves can be immense.

Even a single pull-back event can cause trauma to the nuchal ligament, TMJ (temporomandibular joint), and subluxations in the cervical vertebrae.

The impact on the horse’s nervous system and musculature can result in chronic pain, tension, and long-term behavioral issues, including head shyness, anxiety, or aggression.

This isn’t just about training methods—it’s about equine welfare.

It is so important to stop and think about the many unnatural expectations we have of horses that we don't take into consideration when we only focus on what WE want!

When we restrain them without understanding that we are, literally, taking away their main survival trait of flight, we risk physical injury and damage and the elimination of any trust.

Every horse deserves to feel safe, not forced into submission through fear of pain or injury.

That’s why Equitopia champions a horse-first approach—a framework rooted in evidence-based research, welfare science, and compassionate horsemanship.

✨ If you believe in building a partnership with your horse based on trust—not control—become a member of Equitopia today.

Our research-backed guidance, courses, and protocols will support you in creating safer, more humane practices that honor the horse’s nature.

UPDATE: Clem is currently being held at Comstock Vet being closely watched and cared for. Blood work was mostly normal and though we still are hoping for answers, he seems to have gotten through the worst of it 🙏

Our family endured a trying night as Clem, a cherished member of The Pony, experienced a decline in health. Clem had been displaying unusual behavior off and on for several days. His condition worsened yesterday evening causing considerable concern. Despite our best efforts to contact local veterinary clinics, they were unavailable due to after-hours timing on Easter Weekend. Nevertheless, someone remained with him at all times for several hours, monitoring his condition and offering support until he started to show signs of improvement after midnight.

Clem is in the broad range of his 20s.

The name Clem (short for Clement) comes from the bible. Meaning gentle, merciful, and kind, is particularly fitting for our benevolent old boy. Fortunately, Clem appears more stable today, and we are currently en route to the veterinarian for a comprehensive examination and blood tests.

We kindly request your thoughts and prayers for Clem's health. We hope that he will demonstrate resilience and recover fully, enabling us to continue bless us with his presence here at The Pony.
