Starting June 1, Metro South transfer station in Oregon City will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily to the general public. Hours for the household hazardous waste facility will remain the same (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.). There are no changes to Metro Central transfer station in Northwest Portland. Questions? The city is hosting another drop-in utility billing assistance workshop tomorrow Wednesday, June 17 from 5-7PM at the Ledding Library of Milwaukie. The community is hosting a Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 20 from 11 AM to 2 PM in Scott Park, 10660 SE 21st Ave. Everyone is welcome to attend!

Juneteenth, a holiday first celebrated in 1866, marks the day on which the Union army brought news of the Emancipation Proclamation to enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, marking the end of chattel slavery in the United States. The modern holiday is a celebration of Black and African American liberty, as well as the contributions of those communities to the nation.
