The community is hosting a Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 20 from 11 AM to 2 PM in Scott Park, 10660 SE 21st Ave. Everyone is welcome to attend!
Juneteenth, a holiday first celebrated in 1866, marks the day on which the Union army brought news of the Emancipation Proclamation to enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, marking the end of chattel slavery in the United States. The modern holiday is a celebration of Black and African American liberty, as well as the contributions of those communities to the nation.
