The Equality Act is a landmark piece of federal legislation that aims to amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It provides consistent, explicit non-discrimination protections for LGBTQIA+ Americans across key areas of daily life, including employment, housing, credit, education, and public spaces. The Supreme Court ruled in 2020 that existing federal civil rights laws protect the LGBTQIA+ community from employment discrimination. But it didn’t go far enough. Other vital areas like housing or public accommodations weren’t included, and can still be subject to judicial or executive interpretation. The Equality Act aims to lock these safeguards permanently into federal statute.

Senators Merkley and Wyden, and Representatives Bynum, Dexter, or Salinas Talking Points: My name is ___and I live in ___, Oregon.. I’m calling because…
I support passage of the Equality Act, which remains a priority for civil rights, LGBTQIA+ groups, the Human Rights Campaign, and the ACLU.
We need the Equality Act to provide a universal, nationwide baseline of civil rights.
The Equality Act would ensure that no one can be fired from a job, evicted from their home, or denied medical care, simply for being who they are. .

Why is President Trump trying to create chaos around our National Parks?

There’s trouble when it comes to public access to our National parks. The Trump administration has removed the reservation process to make a reservation from the National Park Service, creating lines, trash, and general chaos.
For environmental advocates, conservation non-profits, and national park employees, the rollback is an unwelcome change during a time when parks are already dealing with unprecedented overcrowding issues. The National Parks Conservation Association said the Department of the Interior’s decision “undermines National Park Service expertise and the safety of visitors” and puts “iconic park resources at risk.” Conservation leaders fear the decision will “harm fragile ecosystems, endanger wildlife, jeopardize the ability of parks to respond quickly to emergencies, and stretch already overworked staff to the breaking point.”

Senators Merkley and Wyden, and Representative Bynum, Dexter, or Salinas Talking Points: My name is ___and I live in ___, Oregon.. I’m calling because…
I hope you can stop what President Trump is trying to do to our National Parks. He’s cut 67 million dollars in their funding, which is needed to make sure they stay open. Is he trying to privatize them, when they belong to the American people?
We need to reinstate the reservation system for our National Parks. That system provided better management of heavy traffic, overcrowding at trailheads and parking lots, and environmental protection during peak visitation periods.
Three of our most popular national parks, Yosemite in California, Glacier National Park in Montana, and Arches National Park in Utah, are no longer protected from severe

Should Trump be the one who decides whether we have the right to vote by mail?

A legal battle is taking shape to protect our right to mail-in voting. So far, a Trump-appointed judge has declined to stop President Trump’s executive order creating a federal voter list and limiting vote-by-mail. Democrats argue that Trump’s order would be found unconstitutional because the states and Congress, not the President, have the power to set election rules or decide who’s eligible to vote by mail. District Judge Carl Nichols agreed with the White House contention that it’s too early to block Trump’s order because it hasn’t been implemented yet.

Since he lost the 2020 election, Trump has insisted that mail voting is fraudulent. But repeated audits and investigations, including those run by Republicans, have found there’s been no widespread fraud. And he voted by mail in the last election.

Attorney General Todd Blanche Talking Points: My name is ___and I live in ___, Oregon.. I’m calling because…
I’m worried about the safety and security of our right to vote. President Trump has been trying for years to claim that mail-in voting is filled with fraud, even though no investigations have proven that’s true.
Trump has already said he wants to “take over” the administration of elections in Democratic areas. How do we know he doesn’t want to stop Democrats from voting because he’s sure that Democrats won’t vote for him?
As our Attorney General, I hope you’ll stand with us voters and protect our right to vote by mail.

Reject Detention Centers in your community!

Currently, there are no overnight ICE detention centers in Oregon. (There are three field offices with hold rooms in Oregon—at Macadam, Eugene, and Medford—but none can lawfully hold detained individuals for longer than twelve hours.) But, the detention centers in other states are a travesty. Specifically, the abuse at the Delaney Hall ICE detention center has been widely documented.

Senators Merkley and Wyden, and Representative Bynum, Dexter, or Salinas Talking Points:
My name is ___and I live in ___, Oregon.. I’m calling because…
I'm appalled at the conditions in ICE detention centers. Please speak out loud and clear about the unacceptable abuses taking place at federal ICE detention centers.
Insist that public officials are granted their statutory rights to access detention centers in order to assess and/or confirm civil rights abuses.
Please continue to refuse to put one more penny of Federal money into ICE.

Support the Delaney Hall hunger strikers and protesters, demand transparency and oversight, close the camps!

Delaney Hall is a concentration camp in New Jersey holding around 800 people, the vast majority of which have committed no crime. Since May 22 over 300 detainees have been on a hunger and labor strike to protest the inhumane conditions—including scant food infested with maggots and no medical care, even for pregnant detainees and cancer patients—and the forced signing of voluntary removal papers, though many have the legal right to stay in the US. Now every inmate is participating in the strike. ICE has responded with beatings, pepper spray and transfer to other facilities. Similarly, nightly protests have been met with pepper spray, smoke bombs and violent arrests. One Democratic Senator was hit with pepper spray as he attempted to enter the building for inspection, as is his legal right.

Conditions in camps across the nation are similarly inhumane, and the detainee death rate has reached a record high in 2026. Meanwhile oversight laws have been gutted, leading to a lack of transparency that has allowed these abuses to continue unchecked. We need transparency in the camps. Delaney Hall in particular should be shut down, as it was deemed unfit for human habitation in the first place, but ultimately every concentration camp in the country should be closed and the people freed. It is not a crime to be undocumented in the United States, and many people existing in these horrendous conditions have, or are on the way to having, the legal right to be here.

ICE Tip Line Talking Points: My name is ___and I live in ___, Oregon.. I’m writing because…
Conditions in Delaney Hall concentration camp are so bad that hundreds of inmates have been on a hunger strike for weeks. They deserve habitable conditions, enough food that is fit for consumption and appropriate medical care.
We demand transparency and oversight in all the camps to stem the human rights abuses that are being committed across the country.
Ultimately we want the camps to be closed and the people freed. The vast majority of them have committed no crime. It’s not a crime to be undocumented and many of them have the legal right to be here. Close the camps! Free them all!

If you think you’ve been targeted unfairly by the Justice Department, Trump says you deserve some compensation.

President Trump wants to be able to pay supporters who claim they were unfairly targeted by the Department of Justice. Trump says the wrongs include a long-ago Russian collusion probe, and the charging of 1600 people who joined the U.S. Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. Public Citizen co-presidents Lisa Gilbert and Robert Wessman say it’s more like “a January 6 payment fund.” Congressman Jamie Raskin goes even further, calling it “nothing but a racket designed to take $1.7 billion of taxpayer dollars out of the Treasury and pour it into a huge slush fund for Trump at DOJ to hand out to his private militia of insurrectionists, rioters, and white supremacists.” There are few constraints on who can submit a claim to the fund.

Senators Wyden & Merkley, Rep. Bynum, Rep. Dexter and Rep. Salinas Talking Points: My name is ___and I live in ___, Oregon.. I’m calling because…
* I see NO reason whatsoever for paying our tax money to January 6th insurrectionists. We could ALL see how violent they were, and they should be in jail.
* I’m hoping you can do something to stop this taxpayer-financed slush fund that’s meant to silence dissenters. That’s one-point-seven BILLION dollars - of OUR money!
* Rioters and insurrectionists brutally beat police officers on January 6th, 2021. We all saw it on the TV coverage. NO WAY should they get a pay-out. They deserve jail time!

The Trump administration wants to announce plans to roll back or delay Biden-era limits on several PFAS “forever chemicals” in our drinking water.

The White House must think we don’t mind dirty water. “Dirty”, in this case, means PFAS (perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances), that don’t naturally break down in the environment. That’s why they’re called “forever chemicals.” The White House is now pushing a plan to kill PFAS drinking water limits that were put in place by the Biden administration. PFAS are a class of at least 16,000 compounds most frequently used to make products water-, stain- and grease-resistant. They have been linked to cancer, birth defects, decreased immunity, high cholesterol, kidney disease and many other serious health problems. They sure don’t belong in our drinking water!

Senators Wyden & Merkley, Rep. Bynum, Rep. Dexter, and Rep. Salinas Talking Points:
My name is ___and I live in ___, Oregon.. I’m calling because…
* It’s hard to believe that President Trump wants to delay, or undo, PFAS drinking water limits that were put in place by the Biden administration. Public health advocates have already made clear that this would put the nation’s health at risk.
* PFAS are ubiquitous in the environment and are estimated to be contaminating drinking water for more than 200 million people across the US.
* I think America should try what the British started doing, earlier this year. Members of Parliament declared, last January, that PFAS should not be used in consumer goods. Why can’t we do that here in the U.S.?

Inflation is now at its highest level in 3 years.

One of the major indicators of inflation jumped to the highest it has been in three years in March as gas prices continue to climb, up 21% from February. Prices are 3.5% higher than this time last year. The soaring prices driving inflation are due to the illegal war in Iran, as is the delay in interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve. Housing costs have risen as well. Higher fuel costs mean higher prices overall, and less flexible spending for consumers as the cost of living increases.

As people struggle and safety net services are cut, we can’t afford to keep paying the price for this costly, illegal war. We likely haven’t yet felt the full impact of the damage that has already been done.

Senators Wyden & Merkley, Rep. Bynum, Rep. Dexter and Rep. Salinas Talking Points: My name is ___and I live in ___, Oregon.. I’m calling because…
* Gas prices are rising due to Trump’s illegal war, and inflation is the highest it has been in 3 years.
* The cost of living, including housing prices, is on the rise and people are already struggling, especially those who depend on safety net programs that are being cut.
* We don’t want to pay the price for a war we never asked for. This rise in inflation is a symptom of its detrimental effects on our economy.
