Electa Quinney Institute at UW-Milwaukee The focus of the Institute is to strengthen and celebrate American Indian education EQI is a research-focused institute on the UW-Milwaukee campus.

We work with faculty affiliates on campus, partner organizations throughout the Greater Milwaukee community, and tribal partners around Wisconsin and beyond. Some of our current projects include learning, teaching, and research of Anishinaabemowin. Many of us in the office also teach in American Indian Studies.

🌱 Day 1 (October 14) at Greenseams Site in Mequon is limited to 25 participants and registration is required. Transportation to and from campus and a boxed lunch will be provided.

🌱 Day 2 (October 15) at UWM's Fireside Lounge is free and open to the public. Lunch will be provided, and we kindly ask attendees to RSVP to help us plan for food.

We’re looking for volunteers! 🧡

The Indigenous Felt Knowledge Festival is coming up on Thursday, October 22 from 10 AM to 4 PM in the UWM Union Ballroom, and we’d love your support in making the day possible!

Volunteers can help with a variety of roles throughout the day, including welcoming guests, supporting workshops, assisting Elders and guest speakers, and helping at our welcome and exit tables.

Whether you can join us for part of the day or want to spend the whole day with us, we’d be grateful to have you! ❤️

At EQI, we’re celebrating sea otters and the importance of relationships, connection, and community.

We’re also taking this opportunity to recognize Isabel Bader and her generous support of EQI’s work to publish books in various Indigenous languages.

One of these special books is Dakonaninjingwaan – To Fall Asleep Holding Hands, a beautiful bilingual Ojibwe & English children’s story that celebrates the gift of relationships.

Join us for the Indigenous Felt Knowledge Festival on October 22nd! Registration is now open for two of our hands-on workshops:

🌿 Save the Date: Indigenous Felt Knowledge Festival 🌿

Join us on October 22, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the UWM Student Union Ballroom for a day of learning through relationship, movement, making, and experience.

The Indigenous Felt Knowledge Festival brings together Indigenous artists, performers, educators, students, and community members for hands-on workshops, live performances, demonstrations, and an Indigenous vendor marketplace.

There is no single path through the festival. Follow your curiosity, explore different spaces, and experience Indigenous ways of knowing through art, culture, storytelling, movement, and relationship.

In July, a few of our Indigenous languages and land stewardship students traveled to Ireland to learn from language revitalization experts in Dublin, Belfast, and Glencolmcille. While there, students engaged in hands-on learning and heard the histories and stories of the lands and communities they visited.
