Many of us in WFB live near a bus stop - take a shovel and go make sure a disabled person, or anyone else can safely use it!

Biked all around downtown in the snowstorm, and of course our amazing Oak Leaf Trail. Was delightful seeing so many people who decided to leave the car at home and just have a nice walk or bike ride instead. Some trails were already well plowed, but even the areas that weren’t were no match for letting some air out of the tires and slowing down. The peacefulness of a car free space during a snowstorm is unmatched.

Biked around Milwaukee to take care of some holiday shopping during the snowstorm, and witnessed what every commenter said wasn’t possible - DPW drivers figured out how to plow the bike lanes! Obviously they’re professionals and it’s not out of their ability, but it sure was neat to see this pair plowing the street and bike lane on North at the same time. Used it minutes later to get to the OLT.

Was an excellent night of learning about how structural issues in and around WFB and other communities still prevents many people from reaching their full potential. We talked to kids about how they view their neighborhoods, helped some people learn how the wheel chair ramp on a bus works, and others learned that you can take your bike with you on ANY MCTS bus! All capped off with an amazing panel discussion about desegregation in schools and how far we have left to go.

Why our current pace of street safety improvements is insufficient, and the things we're trying are dangerously inadequate. We've tried for decades to "ask" drivers to follow the law, and they have not shown us they can handle the responsibility. Enforcement is one tool, but it can't vigilantly stand watch 24 hours a day like a concrete barrier can.

The new cameras on the side of Lee County school buses have caught 1,139 cars ignoring the bus stop signs in just the first couple weeks. The program will start giving out $225 citations starting December 5th.
