WHAT. A. KICKOFF!!! 🤯

Our September Music Lab was one for the books as we launched our milestone 10th season with a very special guest: our very own Program Director, B~Free! 🎤🪈💜🎵✨

From sharing her journey as a multidisciplinary artist to reflecting on Milwaukee’s vibrant music scene, the importance of creative community, & the power of embracing ALL of your gifts, B~Free reminded us that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to building a life in music!

And our teens? THEY SHOWED OUT!!! 🔥

Original songs, familiar covers, a full live rock band, & even returning performers stepping outside of their comfort zones to showcase entirely new talents! The diversity, courage, creativity, & sheer joy in that room were EVERYTHING 🧡

Huge love to our incredible co-host & GWML Program Assistant Brit Nicole for holding it down, our amazing teen performers for continuing to raise the bar, & everyone who helped us kick off this milestone season in unforgettable fashion!

NEXT UP: OCTOBER 23! 🗓️

Our next Music Lab is right around the corner! Teen Open Mic signups & RSVPs are OPEN NOW at gwmusiclab.com. Come create, connect, & be part of the magic! 🎶

✨TEEN SPOTLIGHT: dessy⭐ (aka Dessy)!✨

Meet Dessy, an 18-year-old Milwaukee creative who’s been dreaming big since she was just 4 years old.

With passions spanning singing, animation, visual art, writing, & poetry, Dessy doesn’t limit herself to just one form of expression. She’s the kind of artist who transforms ideas into stories, emotions into lyrics, & imagination into something others can see, hear, & feel.

Growing up surrounded by music from a wide range of genres helped shape her love for performing, while her passion for visual art continues to inspire her creativity both on & off the stage.

A longtime member of the GWML community, Dessy has been sharing her gifts throughout her high school journey, by way of Running Rebels Community Organization. Whether she’s captivating audiences with her soulful vocals, accompanying herself on guitar, or performing a mix of heartfelt originals & fresh takes on familiar favorites, she brings authenticity & artistry to every performance.

Now, she’s getting ready to bring that same magic to Summerfest! Catch Dessy performing at the AmFam House on Thursday, July 2nd from 12:30–1:30 PM as part of a special youth showcase presented by American Family Insurance.

She’ll be joined by an incredible lineup of young artists as GWML & Ko-Thi Dance Company come together for an afternoon of music, movement, & community. Come celebrate the next generation of Milwaukee creatives with us! 🎤✨
