What an absolutely BEAUTIFUL way to close out Season 9 of Grace Weber’s Music Lab! From the powerful performances, to the heartfelt conversations, to the incredible energy shared between current students, GWML alum, families, supporters, & community members — Friday night was everything we could’ve hoped for & more.

A huge thank you to our featured guest, GWML alum & Netflix “Building the Band” artist , for returning to the Lab stage & pouring so much honesty, wisdom, & inspiration into the room while sharing his journey from teen creative to independent artist navigating life & music in Los Angeles 🧡

And to EVERY single performer who touched the stage during our ALL AGES Open Mic — whether current students, returning alum, singers, rappers, poets, musicians, or first-time performers — y’all absolutely showed OUT! The level of artistry, courage, creativity, & growth on display throughout the night was something special to witnness 🚀

Thank you to everyone who spent their Friday night celebrating creativity, community, artistry, & the close of another unforgettable season with us. Your presence, support, & belief in these young creatives continues to make this space what it is.

Tonight, we close out Season 9 of Grace Weber’s Music Lab with our FINAL LAB of the school year — & trust us, this is NOT the one to miss.

Join us for our ALL AGES Open House Finale featuring our special guest, GWML alum & Netflix “Building the Band” featured artist , returning to the Lab stage for a live performance & conversation about his journey from Milwaukee teen creative to Los Angeles independent artist. ✨

MAY DAY IS TOMORROW! 🚨🧡

As we get ready to close out Season 9 of Grace Weber’s Music Lab tomorrow night, we had to take a moment for a little Throwback Thursday appreciation featuring our Season Finale guest: GWML alum 🤩

From first stepping into Music Lab as a teen creative back in 2019, to becoming one of the very first featured artists in our annual GWML x x collaboration, to now performing at notable venues throughout Los Angeles & introducing his artistry to global audiences through Netflix’s “Building the Band” — Nico’s journey has been incredible to witness.

These photos capture just a few moments from that evolution: a young artist discovering his voice, building confidence, taking risks, creating community, & continuing to grow into the artist he is today.

And TOMORROW, he returns to the Lab stage for a special live performance & conversation as part of our “Where Are They Now? — GWML Alum” Season 9 Finale!🎶

Due to an incredible number of signups for this month’s Teen Open Mic — including returning alumni, new performers, & familiar faces from throughout the season — this Friday’s session will now run until 7:30pm instead of 7pm!

MAY DAY IS 3 DAYS AWAY!! 🚨🔥

Get to know our Season 9 Finale featured guest: Milwaukee native, singer-songwriter, GWML alum, & Netflix’s “Building the Band” artist — 🧡

From attending & performing at Music Lab as a young creative between 2019-2021, to becoming one of the first featured artists in our annual GWML & Summerfest pop-up, to now building his career as an independent artist in Los Angeles, Nico’s journey is exactly the kind of growth, creativity, & evolution that makes this finale theme so special.

Since his early days creating music on GarageBand & performing around Milwaukee, Nico has gone on to build a dedicated online fanbase, release original music, perform at iconic LA venues like The Troubadour, & most recently introduce his artistry to a global audience through ’s “Building the Band” 🌎🎶

Now, he’s coming BACK to the Lab stage for a special live performance & convo as part of our “Where Are They Now? — GWML Alum” season finale experience.

We’ll be talking artistry, growth, life after high school, navigating the music industry as a young independent artist, & what it really looks like to chase your dreams beyond your hometown.

This is our FINAL LAB of Season 9 — & definitely NOT the one to miss.

ONE. WEEK. AWAY!!

As we get ready to close out Season 9 of Grace Weber’s Music Lab next Friday, we had to take a moment to highlight a few of the INCREDIBLE young artists who helped light up the room during last month’s session. From powerhouse vocals, to vulnerable originals, to commanding stage presence beyond their years…our teen performers continue to remind us exactly why this space exists 🧡

And now…it’s YOUR turn.

For our SEASON FINALE & Open House on Friday, May 22nd, we’re officially opening up the stage one last time this season for our ALL AGES Open Mic! That means we’re inviting not only current middle & high school students, but also returning GWML alum to come share their gifts, stories, artistry, & evolution with the community. 🎶✨

If you’ve been thinking about signing up to perform, this is your reminder:
Open Mic signups close THIS WEEKEND.

All performance slots are selected on a first-come, first-considered basis, & confirmed performers will receive an email early next week with final details.

Whether you sing, rap, produce, play an instrument, write poetry, or simply have something to say — we wanna see YOU on that stage.

And even if performing isn’t your thing, EVERYONE is welcome to attend! Families, parents, teachers, friends, creatives, supporters, & community members of all ages are invited to join us for one final unforgettable night of music, inspiration, creativity, & connection before we close out the season. 🚀

We’ve officially arrived at the SEASON 9 FINALE of Grace Weber’s Music Lab on Friday, May 22nd — & we’re closing out this wild, beautiful season in a MAJOR way.
For the second year in a row, we’re bringing back one of our most special themes yet: “Where Are They Now? GWML Alum.” This year, we’re incredibly excited to welcome back Milwaukee native & Netflix’s “Building the Band” artist Nico May as our featured guest! Nico will be joining us for a special live performance & conversation centered around his artistic journey, navigating the music industry as a young independent artist, building community through creativity, & what it really looks like to chase the dream beyond the Music Lab 💥

We’re also honored to welcome a very special appearance by Milwaukee native, Grammy Award-winning artist, & GWML founder herself! Hosted by GWML Program Director & Program Assistant , this season finale will celebrate creativity, growth, artistry, community, & the incredible journeys that can begin with simply being in the room 🧡

RECAP: April’s Music Lab was one of those nights that reminded us exactly why this space exists 🧡

From powerful poetry, words of wisdom + lived experience shared by , to conversations centered around multifaceted creativity, collaboration, community, artistry, & growth… this Lab poured into our young people in such a meaningful way.

And as always, our students showed UP! From incredible solo performers to full bands & creative collectives taking the stage together, the room was filled with courage, talent, support, experimentation, joy, & connection from start to finish.

It was all good just a week ago… and honestly? It’s STILL hitting 😮‍🔥

April’s Music Lab for National Poetry Month was something special. From ’s powerful spoken word—full of lyricism, flow, & intention—to a Teen Open Mic that showed OUT, the energy in the room was undeniable.

Month after month, our young artists continue to raise the bar… and this Lab was no exception 🧡
