We are incredibly grateful and proud of the hard work of our volunteers and partners who made possible! We couldn't have done this without you! Special thanks to our co-host organization, Voces de la Frontera, for joining our efforts on this day.

Today more than 20 lawful permanent residents received pro-bono assistance from dedicated volunteers and AILA immigration attorneys to start their process towards U.S. naturalization. We also want to acknowledge the support and assistance that various local and state-wide immigration attorneys, alongside their staff, provided towards the Virtual Citizenship Legal Clinic!

Please help us congratulate Marilu as she received her naturalization certificate yesterday and has officially become a U.S. citizen! 🇺🇸

In February of 2020, Marilu attended our Citizenship Legal Clinic seeking assistance to fill out her naturalization application and was able to get help from one of the American Immigration Lawyers Association volunteers during the legal clinic! Shortly after, Marilu enrolled in our Virtual Citizenship Program, where she studied and prepared with us weekly. When we asked her why she wanted to become a U.S. citizen, she stated, "because I love this country, and the future of my children is in this country." Despite the many obstacles that presented her way, including the difficulties of learning virtually through the ongoing pandemic, Marilu was able to stay committed to her preparation. We are honored and proud to have been part of the journey towards citizenship for Marilu! 🗽

En febrero de 2020, Marilu asistió a nuestra Clínica Legal de Ciudadanía en busca de ayuda para completar su solicitud de naturalización y pudo obtener ayuda de uno de los voluntarios de la Asociación Estadounidense de Abogados de Inmigración durante la clínica legal. We are Empowering Citizens an up and coming organization located in Milwaukee, WI, founded by two individuals with a passion and dedication to helping the immigrant community. Our story goes beyond a single dream and desire to help, it starts with our founders' immigration journeys and their path to living and achieve their American Dream! Daniel Gutierrez Ayala a current DACA recipient and Nury Madrigal a naturalized citizen, with a life dream and desire to make a real change in their community co-founded Empowering Citizens in May of 2019 and officially opened the doors of Empowering Citizens in October of the same year. We at Empowering Citizens are dedicated to helping lawful permanent residents prepare for their citizenship civics exam with USCIS and become active citizens of the United States.

Empowering Citizens seeks to increase the naturalization rate in Wisconsin and beyond. We are an organization that provides high-quality citizenship classes for permanent residents to help them become active citizens of the United States. Empowering Citizens offers interpretation services for USCIS interviews, translation of documents, legal referrals, and provides educational materials needed for your journey towards U.S. citizenship. In addition, Empowering Citizens works collaboratively with community-based partners in Milwaukee, WI and nationally known organizations to provide a range of support services, civics instruction, and citizenship application assistance.

The foundation of this organization was created on the belief that the immigration system and process of the United States should not become another obstacle to access citizenship or any other immigration benefit. Therefore, we are committed to continuing to advocate and educate our community to remain empowered and secure as they build their future on American soil.
