L215 Milwaukee professional firefighters in Washington, D.C. 🇺🇸
Members of L215 Milwaukee Professional Firefighters, alongside IAFF members from across Wisconsin and the nation, are in Washington, D.C. this week advocating for legislation that supports firefighters and public safety professionals everywhere.
These efforts focus on protecting those who protect our communities and ensuring firefighters have the tools, protections, and support they need to safely serve the public.
Among the legislation we are advocating for:
• PFAS Reform Efforts – Working to remove all PFAS from firefighting gear and ensure firefighters are directly involved in the development and testing of the next generation of protective gear.
• Wildfire Emergency Preparedness Act – Strengthening the nation’s readiness and response to wildfire incidents.
• Public Safety Officer Free Speech Act – Protecting the rights of firefighters and other public safety professionals to speak on issues affecting their profession and communities.
• Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act – Ensuring firefighters nationwide have the right to collective bargaining.
• Federal Firefighters Family First Act – Supporting federal firefighters and their families.
We are also urging support for future legislation focused on:
• Reducing the FLSA work period for firefighters
• Expanding access to cancer screening for firefighters
• Improving mental health resources for first responders
• No Tax on Overtime for All Workers Act
Advocacy like this ensures the voices of firefighters from Milwaukee and across the country are heard on Capitol Hill. The work we do locally is important, but working together at the national level helps protect the future of the fire service and the safety of the communities we serve.
We’re proud to stand with our brothers and sisters from across the country to fight for a stronger, safer fire service.
