October 4–10 is , and this year we’re talking about something nearly all of us use every day: rechargeable batteries.

A few simple habits can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires:

🔌 Use the charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer
🛋 Never charge devices on a bed, couch, or other soft surface
🔋 Unplug devices when they’re fully charged
🚲 Charge larger batteries, such as those used in e-bikes and scooters, outside

Kitchen safety starts with staying alert.

Local 215 is reminding Milwaukee residents that a few simple precautions can help prevent cooking fires and keep your home and family safe.

🍳 Stay in the kitchen when cooking, especially when frying, grilling, or broiling
🧯 Never use water on a grease fire. Keep a lid or baking sheet nearby to safely cover it
🔥 Keep flammable items away from the stovetop, including towels and paper products
🍲 Turn pot and pan handles inward to help prevent accidental spills and burns
🚨 If you leave the kitchen, turn off the stove

Fire prevention often comes down to simple habits and staying aware of potential hazards. Take the extra precautions today that can help prevent a fire tomorrow 🚒
