Nobody hands you a manual for this. The latch, the middle-of-the-night doubt, the pressure to make it look easy when it's not.

That's exactly why Black Breastfeeding Week matters. It's a reminder that support should be normal, not something you have to fight for.

If you're on this journey right now, you're not behind and you're not alone. Reach out, we're here.

A little look back at what we’ve been up to 📸 From our postpartum support class to connecting with families at Birth Fest to setting up shop at our vending table — it’s been a full season of showing up for our community. Grateful for every conversation, every new face, and every person who stopped by to learn more about what we do. More to come.

This week was Black Maternal Mental Health Week, and we're honoring it the way we do every week — showing up for Black birthing people's minds, not just their bodies.

Postpartum depression, anxiety, and perinatal mood disorders hit Black mamas hardest, and too often go unnamed, unscreened, and unsupported. Our doulas hold space for the mental and emotional weight of pregnancy and postpartum, our community is organizing, and our village keeps growing because Black birthing people deserve care for their whole selves — not just this week, but always.

To every Black mama, birthing person, and family we've supported: your mind matters as much as your body. We see you, we honor you, and we're not slowing down. 🖤

Monday night I joined the Kaleidoscope Coalition at the Center for Black Excellence for Getting Real on Affordability in Wisconsin, a gubernatorial candidate forum. WIDOCC is a proud member of this coalition, working alongside other organizations to make sure candidates hear directly from our communities on child care, housing, health care, and food security.

This is the work. Showing up and making sure our communities aren’t an afterthought in these conversations.

Thank you to the Kaleidoscope Coalition for the space.
*WIDOCC does not endorse any candidate in this race

Exciting news for all Doula’s!!

Health care in the United States is increasingly team-based, and doulas—who often provide emotional, physical, and educational support for patients during birth, the postpartum period, and beyond—are valuable members of many care teams.

ACOG’s new clinical guidance encourages ob-gyn collaboration with doulas and gives ob-gyns the tools they need to better understand a doula’s role. It also highlights the importance of stronger partnerships between clinicians and doulas, which can provide vital support across the lifespan—including during and after pregnancy—and can lead to better patient outcomes.

You don't have to do this alone.
The postpartum period is real. It's beautiful and it's hard, and it's not meant to be navigated in isolation. A postpartum doula shows up for you — not just the baby.
Here's what that can look like:
✦ Emotional support as you heal and adjust
✦ Help with newborn care, feeding, and routines
✦ A judgment-free space to ask all your questions
✦ Rest — because you matter too
Whether this is your first baby or your fourth, having someone in your corner postpartum changes everything.
WIDOCC doulas are here for the tender, in-between moments. Let us hold some of that with you. 🧡

Good news is meant to be shared. 🧡
Wisconsin Doulas of Color Collective now accepts Chorus and Quartz insurance — and if you're a Planned Parenthood patient, funding may be available to support your doula care too.
Access to a doula shouldn't depend on your budget. We're committed to making sure more families in our community can experience the support, advocacy, and presence they deserve throughout pregnancy and birth.
Have questions about coverage or funding? Reach out — we're here to help you figure it out.
