Gear up for one of the most exciting events of the fall! This season, all mothers and sons (ages 1-8) are invited to join us at Hamilton HS Community Center for our annual Mother & Son Superhero Night.

Milwaukee Recreation offers school-based youth sports leagues for grades 1-8 across the city of Milwaukee. Throughout the year, students, coaches, and spectators fill our fields, courts, and diamonds to compete, learn new skills, and spend time with friends!

This past weekend, teams from Trowbridge School, Bay View Montessori, Rufus King Middle School, MSL, Rogers Street Academy, Fairview School, Escuela Vieau, Golda Meir School, and Clement Avenue School participated in our coed flag football and soccer leagues at Bradley Tech High School and Sijan Playfield.

When your child's school is closed on Friday, Oct. 23 and Tuesday, Nov. 3, Milwaukee Recreation's child care camp at Milwaukee Spanish Immersion School (MSIS) is open! All MPS students ages 4–14 can spend the day with our camp staff playing games, staying active, and making friends.

- Time: 7 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
- Cost: $50 per child, per day, meals included
- Open to: All MPS students ages 4–14. You don't need to be enrolled in the MSIS camp during the school year to sign up for the non-school days.
- Location: Milwaukee Spanish Immersion School (2765 S. 55th St.)

Milwaukee Recreation is seeking a full-time supervisor to oversee our after-school arts & humanities programs!

Primary responsibilities include the oversight of the Partnership for the Arts & Humanities grant program and high school Arts Internship program; the regular monitoring of site-based arts/humanities programs; and the support of the department's network of arts partners.

Jared Kniola is making a difference one rep at a time! Jared teaches Lifting "FUN"ctionally, a weightlifting class focused on muscle growth, strength, mobility, and a play-like atmosphere. He will help you learn the fundamentals of weightlifting.

Jared enjoys interacting with the general public and getting to know each person, which makes him a perfect fit for Milwaukee Recreation's community wellness program, an initiative that provides free health and wellness courses to community members throughout the city of Milwaukee.

Milwaukee Recreation partnered with Milwaukee Public Schools, Reflo, and the UWM School of Architecture and Urban Planning (SARUP) to renovate Cass Street Playfield through the Green & Healthy Schools initiative. This month, the community celebrated the newly renovated space with a ribbon-cutting ceremony!

The new playfield, located at the corner of E. Pleasant St. & N. Cass St. on the lower east side, includes multiple gathering areas, age-appropriate playground equipment, bioswales, and the addition of 75 stormwater trees. The inclusion of a variety of native plantings allow for unique spaces on the schoolyard that can represent natural Wisconsin ecosystems, complete with student-created signage. The vision also includes a porous, synthetic turf soccer field with an underground cistern beneath it to further manage rainwater where it falls.

On Oct. 5, Milwaukee Recreation's Manager Eric Wasserman spoke with TMJ4 News What's Brewing Wisconsin about the upcoming Mother & Son Superhero Night on Nov. 7, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Hamilton HS Community Center. Community members are invited to come dressed as their favorite heroes and join us for a fun evening of games, crafts, and snacks! Moms and sons will participate in Superhero Training and can take pictures at our pop-up stations.

Just a few more days left to register for Milwaukee Recreation's 33rd annual Halloween Glen!

Join us for family-friendly Halloween activities for all ages. This interactive, educational event features eight decorated stations at Hawthorn Glen. This is a fun alternative to the traditional spooky Halloween events. After the hike, families can also enjoy a variety of fall-themed activities.

This year's theme is tricksters! Decipher disguises, seek stunning stunts, and be enticed by entrancing transformations. From swindles and shams to sneaky sleights of paw, find out how nature puts the trick in trick-or-treat.
