Learn how to turn garden produce into flavorful, nutritious, and budget-friendly meals while cooking over the campfire at Milwaukee Recreation's Hawthorn Glen Outdoor Education Center!

Sign up now for one (or many) of our summer Cooking with the Seasons classes, offered on Wednesdays, July 1, July 15, July 29, August 12, and August 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Each class is $15 for city of Milwaukee residents and $23 for non-residents, and ages 12 and older are welcome to participate. Everyone goes home with a tasty meal at the end of class!

On June 22, Milwaukee Recreation held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand reopening of Emigh Playfield following major renovation efforts. It was so exciting to welcome the community, along with some special guests, to this colorful new space!

Emigh's makeover was completed in fall 2025 and incorporated extensive feedback from the community gathered through engagement sessions. The updated playfield features modern playground equipment, a state-of-the-art splash pad, upgraded walking paths, wheel elements for bikes and scooters, basketball and tennis courts, dedicated pickleball courts, shade structures, and more!

Families, public officials, and Milwaukee Recreation staff gathered on June 22 to celebrate the grand reopening of Emigh Playfield with a high-energy ribbon-cutting ceremony. Attendees enjoyed popsicles, a foam party, carnival games, and a beautiful sunny day!

The multi-year Emigh Playfield renovation project was completed in fall 2025 and was guided by extensive community engagement sessions. The transformed playfield includes modern playground equipment, a splash pad, upgraded walking paths, new basketball and tennis courts, dedicated pickleball courts, shade structures, and more. Be sure to check out this colorful space next time you're in the neighborhood!

Athletes ages 8 to 17 can take their football skills to the next level while learning from a Super Bowl champion at our 16th annual Gilbert Brown All-Pro Football Camp!

This FREE, three-day camp at Bradley Tech (700 S. 4th St.) is led by former Green Bay Packers player Gilbert Brown and a team of expert coaches. All skills levels are welcome!

Beginning Monday, June 22, Milwaukee youth ages 6 to 17 can join our caring and attentive Milwaukee Recreation staff for safe summer fun at 16 free summer playground locations throughout the city! ☀️🏖️😎

Nearly all of our summer playground sites offer free meals, and each site has a splash pad, wading pool, or cool spot to help kids beat the heat. Most playgrounds are staffed Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a few open on Saturdays.

Be sure to visit mkerec.net/playgrounds for location-specific information, including hours, meals, water play options, and activity schedules.

Save the date! Milwaukee Public Schools and Milwaukee Recreation's 19th annual Run Back to School is Saturday, August 22, starting at the MPS Central Services Building and winding through Washington Park. The 5K run and 1.5-mile walk support MPS youth sports, wellness, and recreation programs.

Make sure to register as part of your school's team. School teams with at least 25 registered participants are eligible for a $500 grant to support their school's sports or wellness needs. The school with the most registered participants is eligible for a $1,000 grant.

Strollers and athletes of all ages are welcome, and everyone receives a medal! Register now at the link in the comment section of this post.

Join the Milwaukee Recreation team at our Community Engagement Events on Wednesday, June 24, to share your ideas for the upcoming playfield makeovers. Stop by Holt Playfield (1716 W. Holt Ave.) from 2-4 p.m. or Ohio Playfield (974 W. Holt Ave.) from 5-7 p.m. to provide input on either site.

We can't wait to see you there and hear what our community members have dreamed up for these exciting neighborhood spaces!
