On this piece of land, there used to be a house. That house became a m**h lab that blew up and burned to the ground. Then it was a trash-filled empty lot on a corner alley spot run by a local crack dealer. Then some of the neighbors and myself took it over and made it into a community garden, which lasted about 3 years. Now this piece of land belongs to the owners of the house next door to it, and all of the fertile soil and good energy left behind in this place will become a part of the yard where they and their child will play and share many happy memories with family, friends and neighbors...

Dear gardeners and neighbors of Booth and Chambers Community Garden:

THE GARDEN SPACE IS CLOSING!
Our lovely little plot, which has served as a humble yet appreciated space for gardening and community composting over the past few years, will cease to be available for that purpose, as of this year. All physical elements of the current growing space and composting station will be removed and the ground smoothed over and seeded with grass. Our moving date will be Monday May 10th. The landscaping features and any useful elements will be moved to the new community garden space I am organizing at the location of the former Omphoomoo Community Gardening space, on Richards and Clarke, in the Harambee neighborhood.

There is much to be done and many decisions to make, which I think should and which I want the contributors and supporters of this gardening space to be included in, including (but not limited to): removal and relocation of all the garden beds and topsoil (above ground level), transplanting the hazel nut bushes, distribution of the finished compost, deconstruction of the composting station, and so on.

Anyone who is willing and able to help with this process, please come join us, at the garden space, Monday, May 10th at 12:00 noon (and throughout the week of the 10th - 17th).

Peace and Gratitude,

Michael Pettit

A huge pile of mulch has appeared in the garden... Anybody know how it got there or where it came from?

This will be the fourth growing season since creating Booth and Chambers Community Garden, and it looks to be the best one yet! Thanks to all the neighbors who have joined me in planting here, contributing to the compost and maintaining the garden site and cultivating the soil in all the beds. It feels great to know we have created som**hing that is truly collectively owned and maintained by the community; bringing it to life as part of our own lives. It's been worth every effort large or small to organize and I am looking forward to another great harvest! Peace and Gratitude. ~ Michael Pettit

Hello and Happy Earth Day to all friends and fans of Booth and Chambers Community Garden. Several messages have come in, over the past few weeks, from people wanting to know about everything from how to get a bed to plant in here, to what our schedule for workdays and turning over compost will be. Just want to say that I think it's great that people are showing such interest in our little garden space and wanting to get involved! :) Also letting you know that I have just started a new job and have been kind of overwhelmed with adjusting to a new environment and responsibilities, lately, so please be patient. I will do my best to respond to all inquiries by the end of this month.
Thanks Everyone! ~ Michael Pettit

Gardeners do all they can to keep their plants happy and healthy, but sometimes, no matter what you do, certain plants just don't go together. This article will explain more.

More on gardening as you start to consider what to plant this year! Some plants are more "worthwhile" than others when you're faced with limited space.

Taking advantage of the little sun we get by using part of our driveway.
