Alaafia serves as Wisconsin’s comprehensive Sickle Cell resource hub, your go-to destination for support, resources and information.
Sickle Cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects red blood cells. Instead of being round and flexible, the cells become shaped like a sickle (crescent), which can block blood flow and cause severe pain, infections and damage to organs. Early diagnosis, proper medical care and community support are essential to help individuals living with Sickle Cell lead healthier lives.
