Good Evening Scouters!
I hope everyone had a great time this weekend and will permit me some understanding on a bit of a longer post. I wanted to thank all of you for a wonderful experience at the 2017 Scouting the Zoo program. I was able to see every display this year and tried to pop in at as many events as I could and all seemed to be running well with lots of smiles and good stories. I appreciated all the great feedback about the weekend and was happy that the rain and access gate issues caused only a relatively marginal impact on our time at the zoo.
Thank you to the Milwaukee County Zoo for their continued support of this unique event and it is truly a priviledge to be allowed to do this type of event and a great zoo. The staff and I really appreciate the efforts of Justin and Emily in the Special Events Department for all that they do for us and our participants.
Next I wanted to thank the volunteer staff once again for all their hard work. They do so much for this event I couldn’t possibly list everything. This is a complicated event and they are a great group of volunteers and some of my best friends in the world. They are dependable and generous with their time. I apologize if I miss anyone but thank you to:
Amy Kansaku, Lori Holz, Nick Opels, Joe Hauser, Mike Dindinger, Dave Reed, Shawn Engelke, Davian Engelke, Vicky Doering, Greg Holz, Douglas Holz, Bob Farrell, Lee Colony,
Jeremy Gonyer, Jake Harycki, Amy Arndt, Diane Bilky, Jim Ernst, Rainie Ernst, Casey Ernst, Mark Faber, Sue Duren, Sean Waiss, Vaughn & Sandy Martens, Crew 96, Troop 93, Troop 194, Troop 222, and Troop 61.
A special thanks has to go to Erin Buhrmester for her dedicated support of the event. As our professional staff advisor, she has a lot of strong personalities to work with and often finds herself in the middle of a lot of moving pieces. We appreciate everything she does for us and her excitement for the event comes through in all her interactions with us.
This event served over 900 Scouts, Scouters and friends across five different Scout councils in Southeast Wisconsin and Northern Illinois and we will continue to grow! Please stay tuned for final race results and for a post/e-mail directing you to our online event evaluations. Make plans to join us June 1-3, 2018 and preliminary details about the 2018 event will be released here and at roundtables in August.
Thank you again from a very tired and grateful event chair. The attached picture is of Snow Lily, looking the way that I feel!
I wish you all a safe and happy summer,
Doug
